Confirmed Irodori's "Spy". And the Fatui's "Secret", with Theory related to Celestial's Gods.
[After 2.6 Irodori event & 3.2 archon quest + small references from Archon quests] This might be a LOOONG post because I'm attaching many clues from several quests. Please bear with me and have fun reading! What I'm trying to pinpoint in this post is related to my title. Hoyoverse has been teasing us with this for a long time now, and based on the recent quest, they brought it up again. How this "secret" is probably referring towards the outcome of Traveller's fate or destiny later. Which sounds to me will be touch upon again during the revelation of the Abyss Order's plan and Celestia during the final chapters. -------------------------------------------------------------- Remember that one scene after Tighnari was struck by lightning? Yes, the discussion following after that really made me remember Ayato's statement from Irodori festival. First, I'll recap a few images before evaluating. This shows the conversation during Act 5 Sumeru Archon Quest at Pardis Dhyai. Haypasia was a threat to the Fatui, because she carries a knowledge of Scaramouche's past. Is it the truth on probably \"how\" he was created \"artificially\" by a God/Archon? Note that after the final act of 3.2: using all of Sumeru people's wisdom through Akasha to defeat scaramouche has made them discovered that the Akademiya's scandal was on creating a "fake god". But not specifically on the "detailed process" on how the Akademiya did it.
Even the Sages perhaps only accepted Dottore's offer blindly, without asking too much about Scaramouche's past when Dottore brought him in. They don't care who the "fake god" will be, what matters to them was to exercise control over Sumeru's knowledge after Rukkhadevata's death.
It's still fresh in my mind, Ayato once asked us a very intriguing question. We know that time-limited events usually bring "clues and easters for future lore", so missing them out will be fine because the lore will be confirmed in future Archon Quests anyways.
Before analysing the points, here's a recap on previous 2.6 scene:
What I thought at that time was: it was probably another harbinger's Fatui underling. The Balladeer even told Kazuha's great grandfather(Kaedehara Yoshinori) to inform the Shogun about the Gokaden perpetrator's identity and his newfound "name": Kunikuzushi (Ei confirms she knew of his new name based on her voiceline). He didn't try to hide his past. So it doesn't make sense for the Balladeer to hide his secret by infiltrating the warehouse after soooo many hundred years, that would be illogical.
But if the infiltrator was one of the harbinger's followers or perhaps one of Dottore's segments, it makes so much more sense!
This secret was definitely not about the "fake sky". During 1.1 Unreconciled Stars event, Mona (a human mortal) was spoiled with that truth. But so far, she's safe from any Fatui's assassination.
The harbingers don't mind if an Archon(Nahida) knew of the "fake sky", because it's the secret of Celestia. Only the Gods who participated in the Archon War like Venti, Zhongli and Ei would know the truth of the sky/Teyvat.
What Haypasia discovered wasn't about the fake sky. But even so, the Fatui wanted to eliminate her (a human mortal) because she discovered their "secret". So it's definitely because of Scaramouche's past.
Maybe some of you guys are wondering. "Well, that's not valid! The fatui didn't react when other humans (like Katsuragi or Mikoshi Nagamasa) knew of the Balladeer's past(confirmed in Opulent Dreams artifact set)." Remember guys, that time, the Fatui hasn't recruited Scaramouche yet. Why would they interfere with someone outside their ranks? And the Tsaritsa didn't start collecting the Gnoses until recently because during hundreds of years ago; the harbingers rank isn't complete yet (Childe has a normal human lifespan). But ifsomeone knew of the Fatui's secretnow, AFTER the recruitment of Scaramouche, then it's more the reason why the Fatui will hide the secret regarding the Gokaden caused by their harbinger. Most likely Scara once reported to Tsaritsa and the Fatui that he had exposed his Kunikuzushi's identity and he's a creation of Raiden Shogun to Yoshinori. The man's dead now, so similarly to Haypasia, the Fatui tried to dispose of Yoshinari's evidence regarding Kunikuzushi's past instead.
"What about Ayato then? He's a mortal. And it won't be safe for Xingqiu, Ayaka and Kazuha too." Well, my argument is still valid. They'll be safe from the Fatui's assassination because as mentioned from Ayato's explanation above, the infiltrator wasn't sure whether the evidence existed or not in the warehouse, then he left Inazuma immediately to avoid suspicion. No warehouse evidence=no report of evidence to the Tsaritsa. This means the Fatui isn't aware of the fact that Ayato and the other Four Kasen characters had discovered the Balladeer's past during Irodori festival.
As I said, the Sumeru people will also be safe. For now, they only know that the Akademiya was trying to create a "fake god", but not the details on "what this fake god was made from or where he came from". And logically, no Fatui would do a mass murder of an entire nation.
So, if it's not about the fake sky. What is it then? -------------------------------------------------------------- Alright. Let's say, what if...---the secretis actually relating to theKnowledge that Ei's possessed when creating her puppets?
Then, it supports why the Fatui is hiding about Scara's past. Because he was made artificially, especially by a God who has the closest connection to the Heavenly Principles= an Archon. Based on Ei's story below, doesn't this make you wonder what technique is she referring to? Where did she obtain it?
Sooo...Is the creation knowledge related to the Abyss power that she obtained from Khaenriah or is it a Celestial power? Or did someone (perhaps Istaroth) did something behind-the-scenes to allow her to obtain that knowledge? and if it is indeed Istaroth, is Ei aware of this hidden entity's plan? We don't know yet, so I'll leave it to you guys to theorise.
Alright. So, we have a theory established that the secret is most likely the "method of creating artificial life" with the power of ancient(?) knowledge. Which organisation is using this same method again?
You guessed it! The notorious alchemist: Gold/Rhinedottir. She created the Abyss wolves, Durin, Golden Wolflord, Albedo and his siblings. We all know these. So, I won't explain more about her.
Maybe some of us have forgotten, but the Abyss Order is also in the process of 'creatingamechanical god.' Let's recap this scene from the Traveller's Archon quest with Dainsleif, regarding LOOM of FATE:
"Iffateis the ultimate knowledge, thenyour future will be theultimate fate. " -Nahida to Traveller (Sumeru Act 5 in Sanctuary of Surasthana.) "Among a plethora of worlds were numerous smaller worlds.All of 'fate'finding within the tapestry their brilliant glow. Theseindescribable and constantly changing thingsare the most profound things in the world. Only they(dreams), cancompletely repel the madness."-Rukkhadevata's final cutscene.
Yae Miko once asked the traveller during the final act of Inazuma Archon Quest:
"Traveller, what is yourambition*?"
"To be reunited with my brother, I guess?" -Traveller
"But that'smerely a small goal, based on what preoccupies you here and now. Your ambition should be something that* transcends the world below and starry sky above.Something thatshines in unison with fateitself." "Perhaps the reason youdo not possess a Visionis such an ambition hasyet to be engendered within you. Continue your journey, and maybe that moment will come to pass." -Yae Miko*
Dreams are connected to ambitions. And ambition+another unknown criteria(Ei is reluctant to talk about it in her voiceline for some reason) = vision acquisition.
And Venti once said only archons knew that vision holders/allogenes (genshin in JP or original god in CN) can ascend to godhood after they departed from this world during Mondstadt Archon Quest before we're leaving to Liyue.
The traveler's profile still has the LOOM of FATE interaction locked. Let's look at the CN version of the traveller's character details. Surprisingly, it was more specific than the localised EN version. In the CN version, it roughly says: " But the world won't burn again, for you shallascendto the throne of'god'."
Another reference from the Travail trailer:
"Command me to step aside, and show me that you're worthier than I to rescue her. Then, thethreads of all 'fate' will be yours to reweave*." -Dainsleif
Well well well.. Though we don't know how this will be: The fact that despite the Traveller is a foreign entity/descender, their ascending method is oddly similar(?) to Teyvat's vision holders. It requires an AMBITION+other criteria. Which is quite fascinating to me. Very interesting, right? -------------------------------------------------------------- As we can see, there's a recurring pattern relating to divinity:
Technology, knowledge, "creation", fate, ambition, vision, "god". God= which makes up the entirety of genshin's lore.
This brought me to the realisation of how this secret of "ancient" knowledge on creation shapes on one of the truths of Teyvat. Ofc there are other well-discussed theories on those like eg. how Teyvat might be in a simulation, Teyvat is inverted, the origin of Celestia etc. But the point of my post is: why are the Fatui so reluctant to share this "secret"? I don't have the definite answer. Most probably, if anyone outside the God's authority knew this, it would interfere with the Tsaritsa's plan to fight the Heavenly Principles. Maybe there's so much more than this, and we don't know how deep this could impact Teyvat as a whole. This would definitely be explained in future quests. Remember, what's important is the "content of the Secret". Finally, connecting all these clues had made me curious on some questions:
What happened to the vision ascenders who reached godhood. Yes they became gods(like Vanessa but what criteria makes them to be chosen? Their final destiny after becoming a God?
How different are these ascenders' position from the original Gods who resided in Celestia? Venti (and the Archons) are so afraid of Celestia. (It's most likely they're afraid of the original Gods rather than the gods ascended from vision holders). The archons hate them for "some unknown reason" that we still are not sure of. Maybe, they become silent/obedient to prevent triggering the Celestia and had their respective nations destroyed by nails like previous civilizations.
Thus, supporting one of the most popular theory: They're given as a method for Celestia to spy on the teyvat's inhabitants. When chosen for godhood, it might be to prevent the ascenders from going over-the-boundaries. The ascenders, now the newly-made gods, are more easily to be put into close-supervision and not breaking the 'rules of Heavenly Principles'.
From Traveller's archon quest relating to Dain's three questions, he asked us one very particular question:
"This world has people who gained Visions, and those who did not." "Which of the two do you thinkhold more importance in the eyes of the gods?"
The traveller answers are limited to: "(A)Those with Visions. (B)Those without Visions. (C)Perhaps..none of them do." Hmmm, very intriguing. Meaning: The celestia is definitely hiding something..and it's pretty shocking in my opinion. -------------------------------------------------------------- So what is the Celestia hiding? My final thoughts:
Are ALL the original Gods the descenders? (less likely)
OR only SOME of the original Gods are the descenders? (more likely)
If it's the latter, that means Celestia(the realm of gods) has many ways to "create gods". To increase their Celestial gods population and maintain their heavenly authority.. It's logical, because we don't know where the Original Celestial gods came from, it's impossible that all of them came outside of teyvat. It doesn't tally with what Nahida said that there were only four descenders. (It's only possible if, and only if, someone is interfering with the Irminsul's memory again.) This brought me to this mindblowing theory:
Other than ascending vision holders into godhood, from what I mentioned above; the other way that Celestia creates gods might be referring to how they use this same method: Ancient knowledge of creation (maybe taking inspiration from the Primordial One's creation of its Phanes) to create their own 'artificially-powerful but lifelike gods' to rule in Celestia and the nations below.
Does that mean some of the gods that ruled under the authority of Celestia are also made artificially? It's possible that it means Morax, Beelzebul, Baal, Havria, Osial, some other gods are originated from the same method. But this might/might not be made aware to them. Tsaritsa definitely knows, because she deployed her Fatui to hide the "secret" after all.
Eg. Yes... We all know Morax is half-dragon & half-qilin. But where did he come from? Did an unknown entity made him? If so, then, was it Celestia? He's not an elemental being, hence he doesn't originate from the pre-historical 7 Sovereign era. This is implied when Zhongli denies Azhdaha's statement of their lifespan comparison in his story quest:

And based on Enkanomiya, the most ancient history of Teyvat is the Vishaps. Which are the original and native elemental creatures. Belonging to the Vishap Realm/Elemental Realm. = In conclusion, the secret the Fatui is trying to hide is most probably closely-related to Celestia. So it's not about Scara, but the knowledge/technique used to create him and the fact that a God made himis the problem. And why the Abyss Order is so keen on creating one such god to overthrow Celestia, because with this "secret", they have another trump card in their hands ➔A mechanized god that can fight on equal standards with the artificially-created Celestial gods. = Thus, this brings another whole new dimension to the Traveller's and their abyss sibling's potential motive when confronting the Celestia later in the future. Their ultimatefate and their role to reweave all threads of fate. -------------------------------------------------------------- **Thanks for reading! I'm just compiling these hints to let you guys remember certain dialogues that I felt were important. The 3.2 AQ from Pardhis Dhyai made me more convinced about this secret again after so long. Something strange is happening on the lunar surface
It was around 7 months ago when I first made my report to the higher ups, many of whom immediately assumed I was lying. Some suggested it was for the sake of garnering attention, and others suggested that I was attempting to cause a panic within the community. Many had come to label me as a shit stirrer. But one of the higher ups, Garry, a man who I had collaborated with previous projects, was the only one who had bothered to investigate the issue. “And only because it’s you,” he had said. The meeting took place soon after. The Television droned softly with the sound of static. The dim, grainy screen cast an odd, whirring incandescence across the room that sketched thick, black shadows across the textured walls. The strange lighting created the impression of thick silhouettes that pulsed deeply within all the odd little crevices of the room. Garry sat motionless for 16 minutes before his eyes began to flicker. “Garry,” I said, “are you in?” There was silence for a moment. “Yeah,” he said lowly, “I’m in.” Sure enough, there was that odd, disjointed quality to his voice that I had found myself looking for. Over the years, I had come to recognise this as a subtle, but sure, sign of success. That strange, almost asynchronous manner of response. I knew that Garry was in. I barely needed to probe his answer for semantics, but for that feeling of disconnect. His body was here, but his mind had accessed a different plane. “Good. Good. Stick around,” I told him. “I’ll be joining you in a few minutes.” There was a brief pause before Garry responded. “Alright. I’ll just…float around,” he said flatly. I sat up, and shut off the television. Garry’s technique involved the use of constant droning frequencies, hence the static. Mine did not. I lay back, closed my eyes, and began my own ritual, which many in the community know as the “dimensions of visualisation.” This ritual involves visualising each of the three core components of what one perceives to be the self: The unconscious, corporeal body; the nebulous one slowly stretching out, materialising above it’s physical counterpart; and the soul chain which binds them both. When I had finished rendering that image of the trilogy, I focused my energies on the next stage of the process. I concentrated deeply on the body which occupied the immaterial world, imagined it rising slowly, and in one motion, I hurled my consciousness into the immaterial body. I had done it. I gave myself a moment to adjust to the odd sensations. It had been remarkably fast. My vision cleared, and I was greeted to the familiar image of the dark little room, with Garry floating above his material body in the same nebulous form as I, his spectral form giving off a faint glow. “Fuck. That certainly didn’t take you long. You’re bound to have broken some sort of record there.” “I suppose that’s what happens when you’ve been practicing as long as I have.” I said, smiling. It was odd though, Garry noting how quickly I had done it. Garry, while not as talented in projecting as some of the other higher ups, had proven to be an excellent coordinator. He had links across the world and had documented various findings and conducted many studies into astral projection, or “remote viewing,” as he often insisted on calling it. He was something of an authority figure in a small, but fast growing community. I suppose that’s why I had drove 2 hours to meet him in the first place. “Well, I suppose we’ll get on with it,” and Garry mumbled something of a low agreement. Garry and I stood abreast, gathering our mind’s respective energies, letting them splay out against each other and warp to form a sort of bubble. A type of mental cocoon that would link us, keep us together throughout the voyage. “So then. The moon, was it?” There was a low, incredulous note to Garry’s question. “I’ve never been there myself. Though, you know I’m not one for space travel.” “Yeah. Try to focus on your form now, and lean and secure it’s energy into my own. I’ll take it from there.” When Garry had anchored his energy to my own, I began to cast my thoughts to the moon. It was never easy, to shift your mind from one place to another. Especially over such a great distance. But I had done it before. I visualised the pallor of the alien landscape, and the light outside the cocoon slowly began to warp, as if being stretched and swirled like some sort of cosmic tie dye. And with a sudden, increased tightening of the light, the shift occurred. The light outside the cocoon began to unfold itself, sharpening into a perceptible image of a vast, ivory landscape pressing harshly against a black, star specked void. “Follow me. I’ll take you to the sight of incident.” Garry and I began to walk, still encapsulated in our bubble. “So, this is the moon,” Garry said. “No giant soul arm.” “Giant Soul arm?” “Yeah, there was a rumour going around a few years back about there being some sort of odd artificial construction on the moon. A giant mechanical arm that would pick up any cosmic travellers, such as ourselves, and throw them back to their bodies on earth. They said that the US government set it up when they got here in 1969. Probably to stop us from seeing something they were trying to keep wrapped up. I suppose the rumour was hard to believe, considering we’ve only really had verified claims of space travel in the last decade or so.” “The moon seems to have a lot of weird rumours surround it—that’s probably the reason the council was sceptical of my report.” “Probably.” We continued our walk for what may have been 60 minutes. The stars were bright, and the light that reflected from the lunar surface would’ve blinded us, would’ve seared our retinas had we been here in a physical sense. The light was processed not physically, but mentally, through different wave lengths of observation than that of raw, biological photosensitivity. I remember feeling unsettled, yet inspired. Mankind had conquered all manner of climate on earth, and now, we had conquered even the imposing sterility of this vast satellite. We soon crested the rim of a large crater, the site of incident, and Garry saw first hand the strange activity I had described in my report. In the hundreds, or even thousands, tall, shadowy beings stood within the depths of the hollow. Each of the being’s long, wispy limbs seemed to undulate, constrict, and dilate in haphazard rhythms. The pigmentation in their bodies took on hues of grey and black. The colouration, alongside that unnatural, jittery motion of the limbs, gave the impression of TV static. “Astral beings. But why so many?” “That’s what I hoped you could tell me.” Garry took a moment to watch the odd gathering of entities. He seemed visibly unsettled. “The council seems to reckon there’s about 28 types or ‘species’.” Garry paused again, looking into the crater, analysing the curious forms of each of the beings. “But this type doesn’t look familiar at all. And across all the documented types, there have never been gatherings of this size.” I looked at the huge gathering down in the crater. A small number of the beings appeared to be looking in our direction. But the strange contractions of their bodies made it hard to tell. “Garry, I don’t say this to cause any further panic, but to me, it looks like there are more of them now than there was when I first made the incident report.” “Strange. Have you tried communicating with them?” “No.” “I think we should try. If they don’t seem like the talkative sort, worst case scenario is we’ve wasted another 10 minutes climbing down there.” We stepped down the edge of the crater at a steep angle. But it was no trouble for us. After all, gravity did not affect us in this state. We could have hovered down if we wanted. As we continued to descend the crater, I felt gripped by a sense of dread that seemed to grow in intensity as we got lower down. The deepest recesses of the crater were shrouded in a strange, impenetrable blackness. It was like a weeping sore, one that oozed thick black pus. It didn’t seem right that such thick shadow could gather in the harsh sunlight. But I pushed those thoughts down, ignoring them. We continued our descent. Not far away from our path, one of the beings stood away from the others, facing into the dark hollow. Garry commented on the odd sense of dread that the gathering seemed to evoke. Because of this, we decided that this lone entity would be ideal, and perhaps safer, for making contact. Garry also suggested that only one of us should approach it. “It might see the both of us sauntering up to it as aggressive, and then we’ll definitely not get anything out of it,” he said. As for the matter of who would make contact , we agreed on a game of Rock Paper Scissors. “Rock paper scissors.” My hand, splayed out flat, met with Garry’s balled fist and covered it. Garry sighed. “Alright. I won’t be a minute. Stick around here.” “Alright,” I said. I broke down the bubble which secured us together, and he began a steady plod toward the creature. Soon after, I was able to pick up on the low sound of Garry projecting his thoughts in the being’s direction. Not in English, but a language of pure thought, one that the dark entity would have a better chance of understanding. He sent out a greeting in the being’s direction. It did nor exchange the greeting It simply responded by turning and facing him. The two stood still for a moment, simply looking at each other. Garry sent out another greeting. That’s when I noticed that the rhythm of contractions in the astral being’s body started to grow in rapidity. The wispy limbs flared in a manner that appeared aggressive. The being’s shadowy, poorly defined face wrenched backward in a motion that looked painful. Great rips started to form. The crevices in the creature’s head grew longer and wider. As they expanded, they ran into each other, becoming a singular, large tear across the creature’s head. This created the impression of a mouth, one that was shredded and mangled. That was when the screaming started. Garry stood motionless, as if completely stunned. The astral being continued to emit deep, garbled waves that made me feel disoriented, even from where I stood. “Garry, come on. We have to go,” I called out, all the while trying to maintain my composure. But Garry wouldn’t move. And the crowd of beings toward the bottom of the crater had taken notice of me. They began to shamble in my direction, and as they got closer, the feeling of disorientation only intensified. Their bodies pulsed with the same aggressive rapidity that the screamer’s did. Things were getting dangerous, and panic set in. I knew that my heart would be beating dangerously fast back on earth. I tried to return to my body so that I could wake Garry up and bring him back, but something was wrong. I couldn’t go back. The cause became apparent: it was that distorted cry that the creatures emitted. Those horrible sounds seemed to shake the connection between the physical and metaphysical body. They seemed to corrode the soul chain itself. Without even thinking, I ran and ran and ran. Luckily, the beings didn’t move very fast, and seemed to give up on their chase once I had ascended the crater’s edge. I had managed to escape. When I had got far away enough from the crater, I found that I was able to return to my body, no longer discombobulated by the crazed screaming. I jolted up right as my consciousness returned to my body. I took long, deep breaths as my mind raced with thoughts of the screamers, their horrible wailing, and that impossibly dark mass of shadows at the crater’s lowest point. And another thought: Garry. I turned, grabbed him by the shoulders, and shook him hard. I kept shaking. He was breathing, and his pulse remained steady, but he didn’t respond. I kept on shaking and shaking. No response. A few days later, I sent my final report to the council. Simon, another of the higher ups, treated the matter with a degree of seriousness on account of Garry’s disappearance. I made my terms clear: I wouldn’t bring Simon to the moon; I wouldn’t be going back to that damned satellite; and I certainly wouldn’t be going anywhere near that infested crater. Simon smiled. “Not to worry, I’ll be able to make the journey myself. You did well supplying the information.” Simon’s form took on a myriad of brilliant hues as the light bent and folded around him. A second later, he was gone. I don’t participate in the community much nowadays, but to my knowledge, he hasn’t been seen since. I rarely astral project nowadays, and when I do, I never leave the planet. Instead, I travel to the hospital where Garry now lives (if such a grim state of survival can be considered living), permanently lying in a comatose state. I can’t bring myself to go in person. His family visit him regularly. I see them often, although the visits have been getting less frequent as the months keep rolling by. If you are a practitioner of astral projection or remote viewing, I urge that you heed this warning: Stay away from the moon.

Many had come to label me as a ‘Shit stirring bastard.’ But one of the higher ups, Garry, a man who I had collaborated with before, was the only one who had bothered to investigate the issue. “And only because it’s you,” he had said. The meeting took place soon after. The Television droned softly with the sound of static. The dim, grainy screen cast an odd, whirring incandescence across the room that sketched thick, black shadows across the textured walls. The strange lighting created the impression of thick silhouettes that pulsed deeply within all the odd little crevices of the room. Garry sat motionless for 16 minutes before his eyes began to flicker. “Garry,” I said, “are you in?” There was silence for a moment. “Yeah,” he said lowly, “I’m in.” Sure enough, there was that odd, disjointed quality to his voice that I had found myself looking for. Over the years, I had come to recognise this as a subtle, but sure, sign of success. That strange, almost asynchronous manner of response. I knew that Garry was in. I barely needed to probe his answer for semantics, but for that feeling of disconnect. His body was here, but his mind had accessed a different plane. “Good. Good. My vision cleared, and I was greeted to the familiar image of the dark little room, with Garry floating above his material body in the same nebulous form as I, his spectral form giving off a faint glow. “Fuck. That certainly didn’t take you long. You’re bound to have broken some sort of record there.” “I suppose that’s what happens when you’ve been practicing as long as I have.” I said, smiling. It was odd though, Garry noting how quickly I had done it. Garry, while not as talented in projecting as some of the other higher ups, had proven to be an excellent coordinator. He had links across the world and had documented various findings and conducted many studies into astral projection, or “remote viewing,” as he often insisted on calling it. He was something of an authority figure in a small, but fast growing community. I suppose that’s why I had drove 2 hours to meet him in the first place. “Well, I suppose we’ll get on with it,” and Garry mumbled something of a low agreement. Garry and I stood abreast, gathering our mind’s respective energies, letting them splay out against each other and warp to form a sort of bubble. A type of mental cocoon that would link us, keep us together throughout the voyage. “So then. The moon, was it?” There was a low, incredulous note to Garry’s question. “I’ve never been there myself. Though, you know I’m not one for space travel.” “Yeah. Try to focus on your form now, and lean and secure it’s energy into my own. I’ll take it from there.” When Garry had anchored his energy to my own, I began to cast my thoughts to the moon. It was never easy, to shift your mind from one place to another. Especially over such a great distance. But I had done it before. I visualised the pallor of the alien landscape, and the light outside the cocoon slowly began to warp, as if being stretched and swirled like some sort of cosmic tie dye. And with a sudden, increased tightening of the light, the shift occurred. The light outside the cocoon began to unfold itself, sharpening into a perceptible image of a vast, ivory landscape pressing harshly against a black, star specked void. “Follow me. I’ll take you to the sight of incident.” Garry and I began to walk, still encapsulated in our bubble. “So, this is the moon,” Garry said. “No giant soul arm.” “Giant Soul arm?” “Yeah, there was a rumour going around a few years back about there being some sort of odd artificial construction on the moon. A giant mechanical arm that would pick up any cosmic travellers, such as ourselves, and throw them back to their bodies on earth. They said that the US government set it up when they got here in 1969. Probably to stop us from seeing something they were trying to keep wrapped up. I suppose the rumour was hard to believe, considering we’ve only really had verified claims of space travel in the last decade or so.” “All these odd rumours about the moon—they’re probably why the council were skeptical about my report.” “Probably.” We continued our walk for what may have been 60 minutes. The stars were bright, and the light that reflected from the lunar surface would’ve blinded us, would’ve seared our retinas had we been here in a physical sense. The light was processed not physically, but mentally, through different wave lengths of observation than that of raw, biological photosensitivity. I remember feeling unsettled, yet inspired. Mankind had conquered all manner of climate on earth, and now, we had conquered even the imposing sterility of this vast satellite. We soon crested the rim of a large crater, the site of incident, and Garry saw first hand the strange activity I had described in my report. In the hundreds, or even thousands, tall, shadowy beings stood within the depths of the hollow. Each of the being’s long, wispy limbs seemed to undulate, constrict, and dilate in haphazard rhythms. The pigmentation in their bodies took on hues of grey and black. The colouration, alongside that unnatural, jittery motion of the limbs, gave the impression of TV static. “Astral beings. But why so many?” “That’s what I hoped you could tell me.” Garry took a moment to watch the odd gathering of entities. He seemed visibly unsettled. “The council seems to reckon there’s about 28 types or ‘species’.” Garry paused again, looking into the crater, analysing the curious forms of each of the beings. “But this type doesn’t look familiar at all. And across all the documented types, there have never been gatherings of this size.” I looked at the huge gathering down in the crater. A small number of the beings appeared to be looking in our direction. But the strange contractions of their bodies made it hard to tell. “Garry, I don’t say this to cause any further panic, but to me, it looks like there are more of them now than there was when I first made the incident report.” “Strange. Have you tried communicating with them?” “No.” “I think we should try. If they don’t seem like the talkative sort, worst case scenario is we’ve wasted another 10 minutes climbing down there.” We stepped down the edge of the crater at a steep angle. But it was no trouble for us. After all, gravity did not affect us in this state. We could have hovered down if we wanted. As we continued to descend the crater, I felt gripped by a sense of dread that seemed to grow in intensity as we got lower down. The deepest recesses of the crater were shrouded in a strange, impenetrable blackness. It was like a weeping sore, one that oozed thick black pus. It didn’t seem right that such thick shadow could gather in the harsh sunlight. But I pushed those thoughts down, ignoring them. We continued our descent. Not far away from our path, one of the beings stood away from the others, facing into the dark hollow. Garry commented on the odd sense of dread that the gathering seemed to evoke. Because of this, we decided that this lone entity would be ideal, and perhaps safer, for making contact. Garry also suggested that only one of us should approach it. “It might see the both of us sauntering up to it as aggressive, and then we’ll definitely not get anything out of it,” he said. As for the matter of who would make contact , we agreed on a game of Rock Paper Scissors. “Rock paper scissors.” My hand, splayed out flat, met with Garry’s balled fist and covered it. Garry sighed. “Alright. I won’t be a minute. Stick around here.” “Alright,” I said. I broke down the bubble which secured us together, and he began a steady plod toward the creature. Soon after, I was able to pick up on the low sound of Garry projecting his thoughts in the being’s direction. Not in English, but a language of pure thought, one that the dark entity would have a better chance of understanding. He sent out a greeting in the being’s direction. It did nor exchange the greeting It simply responded by turning and facing him. The two stood still for a moment, simply looking at each other. Garry sent out another greeting. That’s when I noticed that the rhythm of contractions in the astral being’s body started to grow in rapidity. The wispy limbs flared in a manner that appeared aggressive. The being’s shadowy, poorly defined face wrenched backward in a motion that looked painful. Great rips started to form. The crevices in the creature’s head grew longer and wider. As they expanded, they ran into each other, becoming a singular, large tear across the creature’s head. This created the impression of a mouth, one that was shredded and mangled. That was when the screaming started. Garry stood motionless, as if completely stunned. The astral being continued to emit deep, garbled waves that made me feel disoriented, even from where I stood. “Garry, come on. We have to go,” I called out, all the while trying to maintain my composure. But Garry wouldn’t move. And the crowd of beings toward the bottom of the crater had taken notice of me. They began to shamble in my direction, and as they got closer, the feeling of disorientation only intensified. Their bodies pulsed with the same aggressive rapidity that the screamer’s did. Things were getting dangerous, and panic set in. I knew that my heart would be beating dangerously fast back on earth. I tried to return to my body so that I could wake Garry up and bring him back, but something was wrong. I couldn’t go back. The cause became apparent: it was that distorted cry that the creatures emitted. Those horrible sounds seemed to shake the connection between the physical and metaphysical body. They seemed to corrode the soul chain itself. Without even thinking, I ran and ran and ran. Luckily, the beings didn’t move very fast, and seemed to give up on the chase once I had ascended the crater’s edge. I managed to escape, but Garry was still stuck back there. When I had got far away enough from the crater, I found that I was able to return to my body, no longer discombobulated by the crazed screaming. I jolted up right as my consciousness returned to my body. I took long, deep breaths as my mind raced with thoughts of the screamers, and their horrible wailing. And another thought: Garry. I turned, grabbed him by the shoulders, and shook him hard. I kept shaking. He was breathing, and his pulse remained steady, but he didn’t respond. I kept on shaking and shaking. No response. A few days later, I sent my final report to the council. Simon, another of the higher ups, treated the matter with a degree of seriousness on account of Garry’s disappearance. I made my terms clear: I wouldn’t bring Simon to the moon; I wouldn’t be going back to that damned satellite; and I certainly wouldn’t be going anywhere near that infested crater. Simon smiled. “Not to worry, I’ll be able to make the journey myself. You did well supplying the information.” Simon’s form took on a myriad of hues as the light bent and folded around him. Then a second later, he was gone. I don’t participate in the community much nowadays, but to my knowledge, he hasn’t been seen since. I rarely astral project nowadays, and when I do, I never leave the planet. Instead, I travel to the hospital where Garry now lives (if such a grim state of survival can be considered living), permanently lying in a comatose state. I can’t bring myself to go in person. His family visit him regularly. I see them often, although the visits have been getting less frequent as the months keep rolling by. Hello everyone. I started writing this after wanting to rethink my earlier post now the primary themes of the Culling Game saga have been laid out clearly enough. Where the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen was about the falls, death and the crumbling of society. Shibuya was the death and fall to rock bottom – the Culling Games is the climb to the pinnacle. The rebirth of the world and the teachings of Satoru Gojo. This saga feels connected to Shibuya by the major themes laid out across the series from the introduction to said climax as two particular points: “time” – the importance of specific dates, periods and it’s unrelenting march, and “favouritism” – the act of choosing one over another, defining or defying a perceived fairness. Many are likely confused why I’m using these concepts instead of the obvious choices of “life” and “death” or “power” and “responsibility”. It’s mainly because of exactly that: they’re too obvious. By taking a face value reading of the series, we tend to ignore the symbolism behind it and make Jujutsu Kaisen into nothing but an incredibly good shonen. “Time” and “favouritism” are examples of how important themes get lost in this noise.
So instead let’s try to emphasise how these themes are connected and everywhere if you sit down and read on legends in Japanese culture and Pure Land Buddhism as the basis for the series. And yes, Nobara is deeply important to this discussion. We start by suggesting that the most important reference to time and favouritism can be seen the three periods in which we are told that the chosen protector of Jujutsu Society, the Six Eyes and Limitless user, existed within. These are in my opinion representative of the three ages of the dharma in Pure Land Buddhism each separated by about 500 years – the approximate period of the Star plasma vessel and the Six Eyes fated cyclical rebirths to support Tengen and Japan’s barrier. The Heian period is then the Former Age of the Dharma in which the original teachings are established – Jujutsu Society and the Three Clans. The Edo period is then the Middle Age where these great Clans all re-emerge as they once did in their greatest forms – here the Six Eyes and Ten Shadows users stood equally matched. Finally, the modern period is the Latter Age – where it all comes crumbling down. The Age where the current Buddha – represented in the series by Satoru Gojo – is replaced by something else. Maitreya – The future Buddha. This is presented as early as Chapter 11 and 18 by Gojo’s conclusion that some of his chosen students bear the potential to equal him with time and that in time he will unleash a generation that will surpass Special Grade. From Jan Nattier – The Meanings of the Maitreya Myth (note: bolding in following quotes is my own):
the Maitreya myth occurs in Buddhist literature in a wide variety of forms. There are stories from China in which Maitreya is described in messianic terms and is expected to usher in a "golden age" for his followers; in texts from the Turfan region of Central Asia, by contrast, Maitreya appears as a most conservative figure, guaranteeing the continuity of the Dharma established by sakyamuni (and, incidentally, the stability of the local government) into the distant future. We read of Tibetan mystics aspiring to rebirth in Maitreya's heavenly realm and of Japanese peasants hoping to be reborn during Maitreya's tenure on earth. Finally, although the majority of tradition's place Maitreya's coming in some unimaginably distant age, in a few cases the myth has been rewritten to foretell his appearance in the immediate future […]
From this we suggest the Culling Game is not about who will die as Shibuya was but who will remain – the new strongest.
Kenjaku’s entire plan seems to have been written with the purpose of fitting an allegory of awakening a new Buddha. His plan to force Tengen and the participants of the Culling Game to wade through the seven days of suffering until Maitreya’s rise. From Edward Conze’s translation of the Buddhist Scriptures:
They also will lose their doubts, and the torrents of their cravings will be cut off: free from all misery they will manage to cross the ocean of becoming; and, as a result of Maitreya's teachings, they will lead a holy life.
This is much like the process stated in Chapters 147-148, confirmed to be part of a greater scheme by Reggie in Chapter 167 – the presence of such obscenely strong players shows that the Culling Game must be intended to reach multiple deadlocks such as that in Sendai. Kenjaku is not waiting for the players to wallow, he’s watching to see which of them rise to the top across the different barriers before unleashing some new apocalyptic event – the bomb that will dry this “ocean”. The sea-life migration allegoryinto the world of curses or “the Other Side” also likely extends to both the path of enlightenment but the oceans lowering as Maitreya is reborn. These references connected to blessings and periods are constant everywhere and related to the greatest question in Jujutsu Kaisen (and the one the bomb is likely an attempt to answer) - “Who represents Maitreya as the one who will equal or surpass Satoru Gojo?” The argument we’re making here is that there’s currently many options laid through the story for an answer to this through the different characters’ ideologies, visions for the future and the targets for their violence/scorn. [He] was believed to have lived many lives before being born as a prince. And, like Gautama, he forsook his comfortable life in the palace. He attained Buddhahood under a dragon flower tree, which is his "bodhi tree."
Gojo, as the reincarnation of the Six Eyes and current Buddha stand-in, is the prime contender for the future Buddha/leader of this world. He chooses to ignore his destiny to complete the merger, as the previous Six Eyes had, and instead wishes to overthrow the corrupt Jujutsu Society. He awakens to the Core of Cursed Energy by the trees of the Tomb of the Star. Maitreya was also said to appear “not in his fully evolved buddha form, but as a person of regal bearing, very handsome and taller than those around him.” and obtain enlightenment in a single day. In the Culling Games, our protagonists are therefore attempting to place Gojo as the new Buddha to sweep over the old order of the Three Clans and in doing so are forced to ascend toward that level themselves and reach enlightenment. A story of overcoming or the rebirth of the old Six Eyes/Buddha with a new unique individual. One who will usher in a Golden Age while answering the question of what made Satoru Gojo the strongest: his unique birth and body or the beliefs that he instilled into his students. But by taking on his responsibilities and carrying on his will to protect the people, the surviving students are now all posed as candidates for the next Gojo themselves.
Any of them may be the one who will rebuild Jujutsu Society in their own image.
The myriad possibilities, lines of foreshadowing and red herrings towards the importance of the final Buddha is an important part of the allegory. From the Napier essay again:
It is important to state at the outset of our analysis that not every appearance of Maitreya in Buddhist literature constitutes, ipso facto, an instance of the Maitreya myth. Like countless other Buddhas and bodhisattvas in the Buddhist (particularly Mahayana) pantheon, Maitreya often appears in Buddhist literature merely as a member of the supporting cast [...]
Maitreya’s character, like all Buddhas, is often quiet until their time comes and the way of the current Buddha falls. Rather than the obvious choice of Gojo, it could very likely be a character who has yet to reach their true potential and enlightenment. He stands apart as Gege casts him as the main protagonist, the main antagonist and also as a side character, or “cog”, with a greater purpose yet unknown. He has an unusual birth with circumstances and connection to his amazing strength currently unknown – Kenjaku could have experimented with him inside the womb for ten months or more as Maitreya’s origin dictates. This imagery might be combined with the “two faces” of Sukuna, Yuji housing two souls and the future Buddha’s two names. The first and primary name of “Maitreya” is derived from the Sanskit word for friendship – related to Yuji, who is the primary face of the vessel and tasked to die surrounded by friends. The other name for this Buddha is "Ajita" – the “unconquerable” or “invincible”. Sukuna not only has the distinction of being the single character to have zero recorded defeats in battle but he shares traits of another Ajita in myths. A notorious sinner who turned to Buddhist study under Sakyamuni (a figure connected to Maitreya) who eventually reaches Enlightenment. The Culling Games also brings into question that this quietly important figure may be Tengen. He is the world’s greatest barrier user and the one who may fuse with all others and destroy the boundaries between the self and the world as Maitreya would. This fact is why the Time Vessel Association chose to believe in him as their saviour – mimicking the behaviour and rationale of real life, powerful cults of Maitreya such as the White Lotus. Some even form around quite literal cultsdue to the doomsday prophecy his existence is followed by. These cults particularly have prominence in China so the “bomb” and the Time Vessel Association’s unknown movements since taking Riko’s body whole in Chapter 74 may be linked to Kenjaku’s overseas trip. Gojo was never alone in making waves. Everything might all lead back to this metaphor by the end.
Multiple characters in Jujutsu Kaisen use several combinations of tales as inspiration for their character, such as Megumi blending the Ten Sacred Treasures and Takiyasha-hime with her gashaduro possibly growing in his domain (credit to Absolute-Cunt299). There’s also a myriad of characters with strong wills to create a new world order such as Geto, Jogo, Kenjaku and Yuki. We’re suggesting all of these influences are now placed as possibilities by Gege within this prophecy as our various characters travel the path towards Supreme Enlightenment or “True Jujutsu”. The students, if not all players of the Culling Game, are now in competition for Gojo’s title and all of them must abandon parts of themselves to get there. To reach the other side and become like him – an enlightened being, a heavenly one. A major reason so far “all they do is fight” and “there’s no losses” is because there is no tension or drama to this story long term in the literal text OR subtext unless we cannot know which of them is the true next undefeatable. Everyone remaining within the Culling Game has been given signs that they may be the one to go beyond the old world and it’s previous upper limit of Special Grade as Gojo once claimed by their continued survival. Until Gege wants to reveal who won’t be able to make it, he can’t eliminate possibilities and leave >15f Sukuna as the obvious winner anymore. Essentially, the bar is set too high that like from Kyoto to Evening Festival, the bigger failures must be saved for the climax of the arc of any natural twists to occur.
Every student needs a storyline to attempt to reach True Jujutsu and go beyond Gojo and Sukuna – even if they fail.
Shibuya introduced weaknesses, displacements and downfalls as well as near undefeatable enemies such as Kenjaku (capable of possibly taking on Jogo and max power Mahito at the same time) and Ureume who utterly eclipsed the previous top Grade 1s. The climax of that arc shattered the status quo and made it impossible to keep the cast at their previous power levels – any defeats they now suffer should both eliminate the loser completely from the running of “the strongest” and logistically become unrecoverable to the group as a whole. In short, they’re not just fighting to unseal Gojo: they’re each fighting to become a sorcerer that can match him and his impact where their loss means the end of the world. The Higher Ups are against them and their opponents are the greatest sorcerers in history. The only way to have any chance in the struggle against these powers or bring back Gojo’s will is to become an invincible force that can destroy the Culling Games. Some people are going to argue against that but before I go into it, let me ask: why at this point do you think Nobara’s removal from the cast MUST be different from Gojo’s thematically? Why is it different to us from Yuta and Hakari who disappeared for the entire first part of the story? From Maki who nearly died in the Zenin estate? From Imumaki or Todo? From smol Panda? From Yuji, unseen for a longer period than between the colony entries and her “death” in Shibuya, or Megumi who last was seen in unknown condition and has given no known updates for two days? They’re all building to something, in each case the downturn is part of the story to be told. Maitreya must be reborn, enlightened to watch the world burn before they can lead humanity through it. Nobara’s body was left in critical condition and she hasn’t appeared in the manga for months but now nearly every student has been transported, changed, maimed or defeated in a way that has left their body or minds traumatised. They’ve all been transformed, undertaking great suffering as the enter the stream as “swimmers” in the flow towards the endgame. No matter the loss, time still moves on and the moment must be seized. The students are now tasked with moving past the changes and losses that they experienced from aftermath of Shibuya. Using their various unique strengths identified by Gojo in pursuit of the same final goal signifying the various paths to enlightenment. That’s what makes them all candidates for the next Gojo. Their potential and the will he believed in them to carry on. Though death is final, it is still another phase through time. One that we know can be avoided by a strong will and wise choices.
Previously I began with the statement that Nobara did not die. The best retort to this argument was made by SubaruSufferu who presented evidence that Gege believes Nobara to have died in some way, shape or form. Huge thanks for pointing this out. I explained it away by saying the term “freshly dead” was a false flag. It seemed like the sort of fake-out death that you grow used to in shonen, especially as he refuses to state her current condition as dead in writing at any point. A fake death with a fake mystery. This seems entirely wrong now after a thorough re-read.
Even while arguing against the above, we’re standing by the argument that Nobara could have been resuscitated and hidden in a manner that mirrors Yuji’s disappearance in the post-Fearsome Womb arcs till the start of Kyoto Goodwill.
(Note, we’ll use bullet points to show the major arguments we’re using from here) This would contrast Nobara’s survival with Yuji, who is saved from death multiple times due to being Kenjaku’s son/greatest creation as well as one of Gojo’s most favoured students. The case for this made in the first chapters saying he had always been know as a child who can break world records without trying and a vessel with potential only seen once every thousands of years. Possibly due to abandoning a sorcerer lineage and obtaining a Heavenly Restriction. Megumi is also saved in Shibuya twice due to the last love/willpower of his father overcoming his reincarnated body upon hearing his son has abandoned his birthright to lead the Zenin Clan, then through Sukuna’s adoration and future plans for his talent. He is like Gojo and Yuta – blessed throughout his life and the bearer of a rare inherited CT. Like Maitreya’s prophecy, she abandons her birthright as the successor of her grandmother – a powerful sorcerer detailed in supplementary materials yet unseen in the main series thus far. BIRTHPLACE: Somewhere in Tohoku ENROLLMENT METHOD: Grandmother’s recommendation (they fought about it though) [...] Q: Was Nobara already working as a jujutsu sorcerer in her hometown even before she entered Jujutsu Tech? A: Sort of. Her grandmother is a jujutsu sorcerer, and she worked for her. Q: Why did she and her grandmother argue about her enrollment in Jujutsu Tech? A: It was a conflict of interests between her grandmother's desire to raise her and Nobara’s desire to go to Tokyo. Q: Is Nobara’s grandmother also a Straw Doll Technique user? A: Yes. Nobara learned how to use the Straw Doll Technique from her grandmother. Q: Did she already know about Black Flash? A: She had some knowledge of it.
Nobara’s own “favoured” position has yet to impact the story in any way shape or form despite it being a major part of nearly every other arc. Her grandmother’s appearance could be the key to this.
All other characters also have some connection that stands out across generations. Maki and Toji as the trash of the Zenin, Yuta’s relation to the Sugawara/Gojo families, Hakari and Kirara’s expulsion, Todo’s position as the student of Yuki Tsumuko, Inumaki’s CT making him unwanted by family, Panda as the last of his cores and son/greatest creation of Yaga, Kamo’s removal from the head of his clan, etc. Such connection to the past/others is necessary. https://preview.redd.it/a53ojvpifgh91.png?width=2295&format=png&auto=webp&s=49ea51a91de0e3e23eef401205e9c22212bfd990
As Maitreya can’t just be human but also a chosen one to bear the pain of the masses.
A messiah who is reborn as an enlightened Buddha at the violent end of a cycle. Conte’s translation states that “as Maitreya grows up,the Dharma will increasingly take possession of him, and he will reflect that all that lives are bound to suffer.” To be the future Buddha you must be blessed, you must be cursed, you must undergo the worst of all suffering with a vision that can survive and inspire all people across the world with it’s intensity. That is the job every character is fighting to take on. It still feels natural to assume that Gege would only detail her grandmother because she would become in some way relevant to why Gojo chose Nobara to take on his will as well. An important question still not fully answered beyond her use of Black Flash.
Her birthplace suggested that if her grandmother had secretly removed her from Jujutsu High, she could already be in the Aomori barrier awaiting the addition of the rule that would allow transfers between colonies.
The previous theory then connected the similarities in appearance between Yuko Ozawa and Hana Kurusu to say that Gege may have used the downtime prior to Shibuya to have Nobara set up along with Yuji to the one to take down Angel – the final major Colony Boss originally revealed.
This might be why Gege is so clear on the order of the rules between transport between colonies and the establishment of a universal communication network in Chapter 190 – he has a player already in the game that must not be revealed too soon who is separated from the main cast. At least one of the barriers may already have a player who, like Dhruv, Uro and Ryu, is strong enough to survive a dead lock/scare away potential attackers but lacking points due to a reluctance to kill weak human opponents. So we’re keeping much of the original post but acknowledging it was likely was completely wrong on the titular premise. Nobara died a very real death and there is a real mystery to the fact that death took place and how it can be overturned.
Most points still stand, but we have to change the statement from “Nobara was never dead” to “Nobara existed between life and death, her soul reaching the other side.”
The old argument was flawed for the reasons I laid out in the opening paragraphs: it ignored Gege’s intentions and we didn’t link any of the suggested events with subtext, only literary analysis of the manga events as a manga. It needed proper reasoning such as the prophecy of Maitreya. So we’re still saying Nobara is returning in some way, shape or form to complete her arc.
The question isn’t if she will but what will that form be and why?
The first option is that Nobara returns as Gojo once did, using RCT and discovering the Core of Cursed Energy to revive herself. This would both function as a way to bring her back and a power up, something that seems necessary to keep her within the running of “the next Satoru Gojo” along with students like Yuta, Maki and Hakari. An RCT unlock was the most obvious set up at the time of her removal from the cast and that’s also why we’re already am going to say that it’s probably the least likely going forward when there’s already so many unseen methods for characters to return from (near-)death. It feels unlikely that Gege would create so much build up to reuse this method, especially considering that Yuji already is healed from his deathbed using RCT by Yuta in Chapter 143. We’re not saying she won’t ever unlock RCT as it seems connected to Black Flash and the Soul through the Core of Cursed Energy – it’s likely highly Nobara would gain this ability. We’re only suggesting her revival won’t resemble what we’ve already seen and given proper impact. Otherwise, why not just have Shoko or Yuta do it in Shibuya? The events with Yuta are important here because it does prove that Gege considers there to be a “freshly dead” state in which someone is dead but able to return and a binding – basically the universe itself – acknowledges this as true that those with knowledge of the Core of Cursed Energy are possibly aware of. Nobara must be assumed to be in this “freshly dead” condition to be able to cross the boundary and return. Something that she would share with Gojo, Maki and Naoya. Nobara’s return may be linked to the resurrection of a sorcerer as a cursed spirit.
Chapter 192 reminded us of the two ways that sorcerers may return from the dead and Cursed Spirits are born, previously introduced in Chapter 33. One is being killed by a means that does not involve Cursed Energy, but we known Mahito did use a CT to attempt to kill her so we turn to the second – suicide. If we break these up as two sets of two options then Gege has already demonstrated at least three of four possible arrangements.
Yuji chose to die and therefore Sukuna resurrected him due to the death counting as a suicide without CE.
Gojo is killed with no CE by Toji and therefore can resurrect himself.
Naoya is killed by Maki and her mother with no CE and therefore a shell of himself is left behind as a spirit.
The only thing missing is last – the return as a spirit via suicide. Then it would make sense of why Nobara’s personality is often presented differently to the other first years. She’s calculated but full of desire, greedy and self-obsessed. All in all, she’s closer to being a gender swapped Naoya than like Yugi or Megumi. What if her final power was always supposed to involve her incredible drive for self fulfilment? The old argument suggested that Nobara saved her life via hitting herself with her hammer before Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration could spread to her brain. This action is an unproven theory but I want to keep it and instead change to the suggestion:
Nobara chose to kill herself rather than be killed by Mahito – he is another cunning Cursed Spirit she fought in the city that forced her to make a choice of life or death as in Chapter 5.
Through some mechanism involving this along with the connection of the husks of her soul left behind, as well as her technique, she then returns.
There’s themes that make sense in considering why Gege would write this all this.
Nobara’s Cursed Technique is based on tales of the Itako spirit mediums of Northern Japan and Wara ningyō straw dolls. The former is it’s what connects her so strongly to the Aomori colony and has been represented already in the series by another character, Granny Ogami. Ogami clearly showed a knowledge and mastery of the soul as well as the ability to transfer body and soul information into vessels including herself – an underrated aspect for potential resurrection of the self. This a major reason she would acquire new training and blind herself. From Marianna Zanetta – The Itako of Tōhoku: Between Tradition and Change:
From the standpoint of the traditional itako and ogamisama practice, as analysed and described by all the researchers, the reason for entering apprenticeship is very practical: she is blind. Be it blindness since birth or the consequence of disease or accident […] From the beginning of the training she would follow a specific vegetarian diet, which would become more severe in time, followed by other ascetic practices, such as mizugori 水垢離, pouring over herself numerous buckets of cold water while chanting prayers and the sūtra. […]
Nobara has already been trained to use the techniques passed down from the region previously, what is there to say that, like Yuji, she hasn’t been forced to train to handle the coming threats after her reawakening through self-blinding? She would be reborn and, like Gojo, be trained on the usageof a powerful technique noted for its prevalence in Heian/Edo period. For those who expect Nobara to return with a new curse tool, the chapter the blind medium in Carmen Blacker’s – The Catalpa Bow lays out that this is the final proces of becoming a fully fledged sorcerer in her region:
An important final step in the initiation ritual in all districts is the dōgu-watashi or transmission of instruments of power. These are the tools without which the girl cannot accomplish the tasks of summoning kami and ghosts and inducing them to take possession of her. All over the Tōhoku district the instruments used for these purposes are of three principal kinds: a bow or one-stringed lute used for summoning ghosts, a pair of puppets known as oshirasama for summoning kami, and a rosary used indiscriminately for invoking both kinds of spirit.
What if the answer was always to make sense of Nobara’s disappearance?
She dies in Shibuya soon before “The Hour of The Ox” during the double hour of 1AM to 3AM – this is an hour where the boundary between the regular world and the world of the dead is at it’s weakest. The exact premise of the start of the Culling Games near the exact time Kenjaku undoes the seal and begins the migration to the other side. Importantly, it also tracks as the most likely period Nobara’s dead body must be revived. If she was moved prior to 1AM and Yuta’s arrival, it makes sense that Megumi could not yet tell Yuji her condition or that he wouldn’t attempt to use RCT on her body. Now we ask if Gege would bother doing something so specific? Well it actually ties into a famous ritual involving both this time period and the straw dolls – theUshi no koku mairi, or “The Shrine Visit at the Hour of the Ox”. In this a woman takes a piece of the target’s body or belongings and nails it with a straw doll to a tree near a shrine – the basis for Nobara’s soul manipulating Resonance attack. While doing so she wears thick white face paint, candles in her hair and a white kimono. This heavily associated with Hashihime, a woman who curses her ex-lover after he leaves her for another woman by turning herself into an ogre. In the myth of Hashishime, a woman prays to the Gods for revenge against an ex-lover for seven days during the Hour of the Ox until the Gods grant her power and opportunity. They tell her to immerse herself into the water for twenty one days and she will become a demon. This is mirrored in the Ushi no koku mairi as the woman is unseen by all, striking the same spot during the Hour of the Ox for seven days. On the seventh, she finds that she has summoned a great power – said to take the form of a shikigami or a transformation of the woman herself into an ogre as Hashihime once did.
Now we can connect the whole story!
For background, we’re assuming that Nobara’s technique is related to Granny Ogami’s but hinges on a different route of prowess with the mechanics of the soul and the core of cursed energy – one unlocked through blindness. We’re then also suggesting that she was always aware of the soul to some degree along with black flash and the mechanisms that allow a sorcerer to revive themselves due to her grandmother’s influence and her training. Something that would interest Gojo in teaching her. We note that Nobara has a much more complex understanding of life and death than Yuji and arguably Megumi – completely abandoning the idea that it is fair or unfair in favour of viewing it as a matter of luck or survival. She is the closest to Gojo’s vision of aloof self-sacrifice, a major strength as a candidate to replace him. She only ever goes all out from the start with killing intent against curses and the Death Paintings – all of whom she significantly damages. Like Gojo, she’s prone to both hold back her ability for the sake of others and against human opponents as Gege shows all the way back in Chapter 5. Her refusal to judge Yuji or Maki for being othered by Jujutsu society is also a strong point of similarity – she’s vain but morally righteous with a strong self of self that can allow others to “take a seat in her life”. In Chapter 63, she becomes Yuji’s hope as she bears his sins allow with him and takes on Megumi’s as well – she’s both of their “accomplices”. Like the prophetised Buddha, her character is always one that is expected to be beautiful but also take on the pains of others. Something that is apparent in her fight against the Death Paintings with Yuji in Chapters 60-62, but also her conversation with Momo which introduces the idea of women being scarred – a foreshadowing to her missing and/or transformed facial features much like Hashihime. Hi all, I am not sure if this post is useful to everyone, but given there is not a lot of info on using this sub's method in Forex, I wanted to share my setup and learnings. Forex is a completely different beast than stocks. If you are trading the Euro Dollar (EURUSD), not only do you need to consider if the Euro is strong or weak, you also need to consider if the Dollar is strong or weak. It is entirely possible that you go long the Euro into strength, but because the Dollar is also strong, EURUSD may go nowhere or even down. I like to flip u/HSeldon2020's adage "put the market first" into "put 2x markets first", referring to the need to analyse each currency before you can get a good view of RS/RW. Creating currency strength charts in TradingView
First of all, we need to create a currency strength chart in TradingView. Forex, as a decentralised market, doesn't have a single tracker like the S&P500 that can be used to gauge market strength or weakness. We need to do this for every single currency pair we trade. Maybe, if you're like me you might have clicked on them a few times, not knowing what they do, and then given up and moved on to something else. However, these symbols unlock an extremely powerful feature called spread charting. In essence, spread charting is taking one asset and re-charting it with some alteration. For example, you could create your own version of the FAANG index, but remove Netflix based on their recent earnings bomb. To do this, you would simply search for (FB+AAPL+AMZN+GOOG)/4. This will add all four symbols together and then find the mean by dividing by the number of symbols: Daily Chart for (FB+AAPL+AMZN+GOOG)/4 At the most basic level, we want to take this concept and apply it to different currencies. The goal is to create a chart that shows the strength of a single currency like the USD, EURO, CAD, etc. In FX, we already have the DXY which tracks the strength of the US Dollar. There are also other indices like EUROWCU which track the strength of the Euro. We can use these directly, or alternatively, create our own using the spread charting feature. Now, this next part gets into some math and FX basics, so either follow along or skip ahead if you're already trading FX. Currencies are quoted in pairs of: BASE|QUOTE. For example, EURUSD. EUR is the base, USD is the quote. In layman's terms, EURUSD means we: Buy EUR using USD. USDJPY means we buy USD using JPY. If we just use EURUSD, it can move in trading because: Up:

This presents a really interesting opportunity for RS/RW traders. Not only do we have the thing we are trading (e.g. the Euro) gaining or losing strength, we also have the counterpart (e.g. USD) having an opposite effect. This is why it is crucial for us to map the strength of each currency. If we just look at one it will only tell us half of the story. To the math, to understand the strength of a currency we add all the pairs where the currency is the base, subtract where it is the quote, and divide by the number of other currencies indexed against (7). For example in TradingView search we can enter:
If you're confused, don't worry. Just literally copy/paste one of those into TradingView and it will give you a chart showing the strength of that currency: A Daily Chart of the USD index using the formula above As you can see, USD has been surging since February. This tells us half of the story. If we chart another currency, like JPY, you will see it has been incredibly weak at the same time: Daily chart of JPY during the same time And then, just like magic, we know that USD = strong, JPY = weak, therefore USDJPY is probably very strong right now. It only takes a quick news search to see that USDJPY has been incredibly strong since Feb and is the current topic of Government intervention in Japan.
How to interpret these charts
Great! We now have the basics. We know that TradingView will let us chart a custom index (or we can use some existing ones like DXY). It can be useful at this point to pull up a few charts into a split-screen and use this as a sort of screener to see what is strong/weak today. I like to also include the Ichimoku Cloud for easier trend identification: Quad screen comparing EUR, USD, GBP, and CAD It can be a lot to take in, so I usually prefer screening just two currencies, or using one of the RS/RW screeners I'll talk about soon. To make things clearer, let's zoom in on EUR and GBP today: EUR and GBP strength on 1H chart EUR and GBP strength on 5m chart We can now clearly see that EUR has been heading up since 2am, while GBP has been heading down since 2am. What does this mean? Well, we already know this means that the EURGBP is probably trending higher. Let's take a look: EURGBP 5m chart Yes! We've got a beautiful uptrend intraday on EURGBP. What we can do now is monitor the charts and look for instances where the GBP strength chart breaks down bearish again or EUR continues moving up. Both will be a strong signal that we can start to see some movement in the pair EURGBP. It also goes without saying that we can use the traditional teachings from the wiki in the same way, with a slight modification:
Let's say the Euro drops massively this afternoon, but EURGBP doesn't drop, what does this mean? It's the same sort of scenario as if we saw SPY gap down but AAPL treading water or heading slightly up. It's a sign of relative strength. If the Euro starts going up again, we could expect a larger than normal upswing in EURGBP.
Maybe EUR keeps heading higher but the EURGBP chart is treading water or heading down. We're probably shifting to relative weakness and/or the momentum is fading. Combined with a top-down view of the market this can give you a powerful bias for your trade.
The important point I want to get across is that the fundamentals are the same as what is taught in the wiki, but instead of thinking "market first" you need to think "2x markets first". What is the Euro doing? AND what is the USD doing? You need to have a really good read of the chart to take these trades in FX. A marginal analysis won't cut it. The good news is we can automate a lot of this hard work with the next section.
Running RS/RW scans on currencies
Just like many of the RS/RW indicators that have cropped up for trading vs SPY, you can use this same technique for trading currencies. The difference is now that we've done some charting, we actually have a reliable index to use. It's as simple as loading up the script, doing the usual setup for the tables, but instead of SPY as the comparison symbol, we use the spread chart symbol from earlier: An example setup for USD pairs Screener output I can now see, in one quick glance, that if I wanted to trade a USD pair right now, USDCHF is probably the strongest on the long side. If I pull up USDCHF intraday, it has made a fresh move up and is consolidating. Maybe it will break upwards? Who knows. I find Forex to be very interesting to trade and do enjoy reading about monetary policy and economic outputs. It's not for everyone! In no way do I feel like I have "cracked the case" on how to trade FX using RS/RW, but I hope this does help anyone who shares my interest give it a shot or build on the idea. If nothing else, I have built a deep understanding of how Forex markets operate by simply observing the strength and weaknesses of different currencies and extrapolating this into trading pairs. The final note I want to make is to really re-emphasize how different FX is to stocks. If the S&P500 gaps up, you could randomly pick any constituent stock and there is a likelihood that it is up too. If the USD strength chart gaps up, any USD pair could actually be down. It doesn't matter what the USD is doing if another currency is melting down. FX really is a different beast. However, if you take a "2x markets first" approach you will quickly see how the methods of u/HSeldon2020 can apply in Forex, and presumably, in commodities and Crypto too. I haven't even touched on some of the other parallels such as the importance of a strong daily chart, but trust me, everything in the wiki is applicable in Forex as long as you get your comparison symbol right. I think this method comes close to replicating for Forex what SPY is to stocks. If there are any other Forex lurkers in this sub, I would love to collaborate and really build on this to create a sort of Forex version of the RS/RW rules.
