I received a notice in the mail informing me of changes to the membership agreement including binding arbitration and prohibition of class action lawsuits. You have until January 3 to opt out, and new members will have 30 days after joining to opt out.
Let me be clear that there's nothing inherently wrong with arbitration. I understand that it can be a great way to expedite resolution of legal matters and avoid adding to the burden of the court system when you don't feel it might be necessary to take a matter to a jury trial. But binding arbitration is bullshit, and you should always opt out when you can, and never enter into an agreement where you can't. There's not a damn thing stopping you and the other party from mutually agreeing to take a legal matter to arbitration in lieu of the court system, but a binding arbitration agreement deprives you of that choice.

My job is making me sign an Arbitration Agreement, either I sign it voluntarily or they sign it for me Jan 1st, if I come into work.

I don't like this. According to a few articles from Cali it seems like this doesn't work, and only works in the employees favor 1-2% of the time. They have union busted in the past and stated they don't want a 3rd party to be in-between us, but now they're going to put a 3rd party in-between us for disputes. And they're going to pay them, so how is that not bias? I'm really upset over the fact that they said that I automatically sign it if I continue to work after Jan 1st. So what's the point of having us volunteer to sign it?

I am really curious to know. If you signed an arbitration agreement with your employer, then later get discharged from work and file for unemployment. Can your employer contest your unemployment benefits if you signed an arbitration agreement? I’m asking because I know arbitration states that instead of taking any legal action through court, both parties have to settle it though arbitration therefore I’m not sure if contesting a UI claim is breaking the agreement since it is dealing with the courts?

My job that I have been working at for close to a year is requiring all employees to sign an arbitration agreement. If we don't sign it could lead to termination. I was looking into California state law and I believe an employer cannot require you to sign one. What would happen if I didn't sign?

I've purchased a Google Nest camera for home security. Google says I can opt out of their arbitration agreement within 30 days of activation but provides no way to continue setting up the camera without selecting "I Agree". It seems to be a catch 22. Is this legal?

As the topic said, I recently purchased a Nest camera for home security. The camera has to be set up using the Google Home App. Once the app identifies the camera during the setup process, the user is taken to an arbitration agreement screen and prompted to tap one of two buttons: "No Thanks" to indicate that the user does not agree to the arbitration agreement, or "I Agree" to indicate that the user agrees to it.
This screen also states that a user may opt out of the agreement following instructions detailed in the agreement, to which a link is provided.
Selecting "No Thanks" aborts the set up while link takes the user to the arbitration agreement, the opt out clause of which states that users have a right to opt out of the arbitration agreement within 30 days (or longer where required by law) of activating their Google device **unless** the user has previously agreed to the arbitration agreement. A link to an opt out form is elsewhere on the page.
I would like to opt out of the arbitration agreement, but I am blocked from continuing activating/setting up the device unless I actually agree to it, I can't opt out unless it's already activated, and if I agree to it before opting out then my opt out request is invalid.
I would not have purchased this brand if I had known I would be met with this, and I may very well return it but is it actually legal what Google is doing here?

Hi there, I have a point of confusion around required arbitration agreement. I am at a CA company that was acquired by a MN company. We are being made to sign over to new employment under the MN company. As part of onboarding they sent over Arbitration Agreement that if I refuse to sign, the onboarding activities cease. My understanding is CA laws allow me to not sign these without having negative impact on my employment. Am i right?

I quit & have not received my last check. Today, I received a request to sign an arbitration agreement.

I believe an arbitration agreement is so that I can’t sue, & have to settle outside of court, but I’m not completely sure.
Would I have more rights by not signing, & if I did sign, what could I expect? Can I agree to come to an agreement for my signature?
I guess my questions are: 1. What is an arbitration agreement? 2. What can I expect if I sign? & 3. On the other hand, what can I expect if I don’t sign?
My company owes me wages worked, plus waiting period wages. I quit on the 7th, & I think my supervisor didn’t submit my time card, because she was waiting on a 1 minute correction that I previously fixed, but her computer didn’t save. I’m also in California.
