Gold and silver December contracts post minimal reduction in open interest with just 2 days to first notice. Is there a different primate specie hanging around comex futures pits nowadays?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Silver
Looking back over the last year, there have been many months where registered silver volumes at comex vaults have declined in the weeks following first notice day. You can see that below on my plot of registered silver by vault. The major month first notice day's are the pinkish vertical lines.
Notice the larger vaults ... JP Morgan, MTB, and Brinks often have declines soon after first notice day. The huge exception is after the default, where JP Morgan reacted vigorously and moved about 14 million oz into registered. Ha! That's all gone plus another 10 million oz!
Also notice that those same big vaults have also flattened out the last month or so. Is the epic vault drain over? Consider this ... usually throughout the year, the frequency of major month delivery cycles is 2 months. However this time of year it is 3 months ... September to December. That may have contributed to the flattening decline the last few weeks. It happened last year too.
The December contract has first notice day on Tuesday night, so maybe we will soon see a resumption in registered vault decline.

Speaking of first notice day ... the last 2 day's decline's in open interest have been less than usual as you can see on the plot below. At the close Friday the OI was just under 20,000 contracts ... far more than the the 7,034 contracts residing in registered.

https://preview.redd.it/q8mwotdqgr2a1.png?width=3500&format=png&auto=webp&s=e50686b7238efead20f343b177152d42403d33af
Meanwhile back at the vault ranch ... a slight net decline in vault total:
https://preview.redd.it/3fw441ud6r2a1.png?width=1181&format=png&auto=webp&s=62f483fefcdecc0d1703672406a2af5c9b06eaeb
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Gold
For the December gold contract (also approaching first notice day), the "day 2" decline in OI was the lowest in at least the last 2-1/2 years. By "day 2" I mean the decline in OI from day 3 to day 2. You can see on the plot below that a typical day 2 decline (thick black line) has been about 45,000 contracts whereas the December contract decline was only 18,100 contracts.
Different folks holding contracts nowadays??

Gold's vaults were dormant on Friday.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Other, OK to read
While having lunch today I Listened to Francis Hunt on Liberty and Finance's channel. He cried in his beer for about 5 or 10 minutes about his stake in FTX, but then he went into some good thoughts about how those deep state SOB's may transition us from "old dollars" to CBDC. I think he made some good points about how they may force that upon us.
Most oppinionators don't want to go out on a limb to predict what could happen. I suppose they don't have any ideas, OR they just want to protect their reputation because there is a high chance they'll be wrong. That's why I like Longo. If he gets 10% correct, it's valuable commentary.
Anyhow, good piece by Francis Hunt ...

Also, a few hedge funds (who don’t understand physical vs paper) will start buying futures contracts and SLV calls. Volume over the next few weeks will also be a good indicator.

There is only 2,093k BTC on exchanges, but there is 657k Bitcoin Futures Contracts on exchanges. effectively diluting the supply on exchanges by 31%. I think its these fake IOUs that have caused the number to go down.

source is CoinGlass on the numbers. Eventually they are gonna run out of fake bitcoin IOUs to print up out of thin air. There's only 1,843,794 bitcoin left to be mined and it looks like 657k got sold "pre-mined" (not that kind of pre-mine) via future contracts. Few acutally understand this.

Margin requirements for forex futures trades placed in early morning

I’m new to the concept of futures trading, and am interested in day trading Forex futures (like GBPUSD). What I’m confused about is this: there is a certain margin requirement for trades placed during “normal hours”, and a different, much higher one for “overnight”. It’s not clear what normals hours and overnight really means for currency futures. Considering I’d be trading with a small account, I wouldn’t want the “overnight” margins to apply.
If I were to place a trade at say 4AM EST, which margin requirement would apply? Is it only that the overnight margin applies when you hold a trade from before close to after close, or does it also apply to anything that’s placed outside the typical 8/9AM-4/5PM zone?
Thank you
Edit: I think my confusion is cleared up now. What confused me was the terminology, “overnight” made it sound like a trade placed at night or before regular morning hours would require maintenance margin. What it actually means is holding an open trade during the 1hr time period between open and close, ie 5-6PM EST. A trade opened outside of that period wouldn’t require maintenance margin, as long as the trade was closed before the next 5PM EST close of the market. So, if I were to open a trade at 4AM EST, it wouldn’t require maintenance margin unless I held it past 5PM EST, so I would just need to make sure it was closed before then. I wouldn’t hold through that period anyway for what I’m doing (day trading). Thanks everyone for your replies.

CFAI Qbank Lvl 3 - Forward contracts are more liquid than futures contracts?

The question is if we should use dynamic forwards or dyanmic futures to hedge a currency overlay program. Answer is dynamic forwards, but in their answer as to why forwards vs futures the below is stated. This makes no sense to me at all.

"Finally, forward contracts are more liquid than futures for trading in large sizes because the daily trade volume for OTC currency forward contracts dwarfs those for exchange-traded futures contracts."
