These questions are specifically for community college advisors so I can have an understanding of my current workplace structure. At your school, do you have caseloads? If so, how large are your caseloads? Are you also required to see walk-in students that belong to any majonew students etc? Are you housed in a central advising area or housed within your area of study? Do your believe community colleges can mimic case management as universities do?
Did anyone catch that Citadel Advisors LLC became Citadel L P in March of this year, and their SEC filing shows that 44% of their clients are non-United States persons, and most of the money under management (72%) belongs to non-U.S. persons ... Wat Doin Mayo Boy?
New Behaviour Policy what’s everyone’s thoughts? Year Advisors calling home to students on suspension, behaviour management flowcharts for return from suspensions, having time-in in classrooms for challenging behaviour? This is in a high school setting.
Met with my parent's financial advisor today. Glad I manage my own investment accounts.
Per my Mom's request, I met with their financial advisor today. Both my parents are 80+ and have/'had less than $700k spread out between 2 IRA's and a brokerage account. My Mom was a little worried seeing her quarterly statements. I asked her a few questions and she said she really didn't understand most of it and she just lets the advisor handle things. My biggest concern is that he is charging them 1.5% of the balance annually. They only meet with him once a year. Otherwise, he calls them to suggest any changes. (which she doesn't understand, and just says "go ahead"). When I challenged him on the expense ratios of some of the mutual funds vs a similar (lower cost) etf, he said the the mutual fund gives them a more targeted approach and often times outperforms etfs, because they are actively managed. (I know this is not true in many cases). I also asked if the expense ratio is higher due to a mutual fund team actively managing the fund, then why does he need 1.5% to actively manage their portfolio? (he didn't like that comment) I also questioned why (at 80 yrs of age) their investments were still in 55% stocks vs bonds? When their risk aversion is high? My Mom is more concerned with keeping what she has vs increasing principle. I don't want to manage my parents finances, but I think they would be better served rolling their money into a self managed account and holding a few ETF's, while paying a flat fee fiduciary once a year to review. EDIT: I wanted to add that this money is earmarked for my dads long term care. He was diagnosed with dementia 2-3 years ago. The timeline for this money is 1-3 years. This advisor has known about my dads condition for over a year. My mom could have thought that the investments were going to continue to go up. I don't know what conversations were had about risk.

Looking for financial advisors for long-term discretionary trust investment that charge one off fee for setting up investment, not an annual fee for management. Or just better advisors.
Hi. This is a follow up to a previous post where I got a lot of useful advice here: Hoping for advice on investing money in a discretionary trust - investment bonds based on a low fee fund? : UKPersonalFinance (reddit.com) Taking the advice of people there, I contacted a few financial advisors. Often they seemed quite 'sales-y' in manner, and I'm not sure I've found anyone I thought was great. The person I was most impressed by was the most upfront about fees, and they (with the various things being done and paid for) likely added up to nearly 2% a year. We're thinking that the money could be left for 20 years, so it's hard to forget that's 40% of it gone in fees. It also sounded like what they'd do would not be clearly better than just having the money in an investment bond for a low fee global investment fund, and that potentially we'd still need to be doing other things ourselves, or they suggested paying for an accountant, lawyer, etc on top of that. Some basic questions: Am I just bad at finding the right people? I've been looking at local advisors so I could see them in person - is it fine to just assume everything can be done via the internet/phone? I've gone through www.step.org and www.thepfs.org. - should I be trying something else? Or maybe I just have unreasonable standards and am wary of the reasonable sales tactics of those looking for business? Are there places that, for a reasonable flat fee, help you set your investments up and then briefly guide you through how to manage things for yourself from then on? Final question: would we even be able to set up an investment bond ourselves? If so, how would we start? I would still want to get more advice before attempting this, but I'm interested to know my options. Thanks so much to everyone sharing their knowledge and views here.

I am considering working with a private wealth management firm to help get access to alternative investments and funds. My approach to date has been primarily indexes and various public high tech securities (5M NW). I'm exploring diversifying my approach but not terribly excited about the fees (0.5% to 1%). Any suggestions or positive experiences with working with these types of firms?
