A bit more contexts here: I talked to him for about a week before our first date. Everything seemed fine until the morning of our date when I asked him if he had any suggestions on where we should get lunch. No response for like 2 hours. I called his number and nobody picked up( we called each other and chatted almost every day). I sensed something was off and texted him suggested that if he didn’t feel like meeting then he should let me know and cancel the date. He responded later and did said that he didn’t feel like meeting but didn’t suggest to reschedule to a specific date. Never talked again until today he said hi to me… I didn’t say much and he didn’t bring up to reschedule the date… will you ask him out again or just move on? Thanks!

I've posted about this before as it's my biggest regret and it happened at the end of this year's June. You see, I just entered summer vacation then, and until then I was seeing my crush daily at school, who is also my deskmate and gives a lot of mixed signs on whether or not she likes me back (more on that later). So at the end of June, I took the bus I usually take to hang out with my friends (I was running to catch it) and at the bus stop there were 3 people (looked like teenagers - 2 girls and a guy). I sat on a seat at the front of the bus and they were somewhere behind me. After like 10 minutes, one of the girls moved next to me from her seat or wherever she was (I assume the guy and the other girl left the bus, otherwise it'd be weird of her to move next to me and leave them). She talked on the phone with someone to meet up and when I turned on my phone she continuously looked towards it (I wanted to show her my profile or something, but I didn't really have one at the time and I was embarassed so I just called a friend on messenger instead), but anyway - she looked as if she wanted to get my contact. I was waiting for her to talk first, since she was the one who initiated, which is where I think I was wrong and my mistake, will never do that again, but then again, even though she didn't bother me and I liker her, I didn't ask to be put in that situation, I now see it as an opportunity rather than something to be stressed about, bit in the moment I wasn't ready and didn't know what to do. Was I really that wrong in not talking to her first since I was caught off guard? I still had doubts over her intentions and obviously I wouldn't have talked to her if she just sat there coincidentally (although she didn't, there were many empty seats, but I only realize these things now, after weighing the situation). So is it really my mistake not acting in the moment then? Again, didn't know what to do, maybe out of stupidity, but I haven't been in a situation like that before and didn't know what to expect, I felt uncomfortable. Should she have talked first instead? I regret it because I liked the girl from the little I saw/heard her, but I'd like to how how wrong was I in not striking up the conversation myself. I'm sure it's my fault too, but I'd like to know to what extent. Honest answers are appreciated. Also, I was thinking about my crush at the time, who showed interest in staying in the same desk with me and talks with or about me constantly in class, but didn't even follow me back on instagram but seems to like other guy's pictures. A question for recruiters - What is your conversion rate or funnel look like? What's the ratio of first contact to offer?
I'm asking this because I actually just got another job offer from a Tier 1 startup (a position requiring 2-3 years of experience). I spoke to the recruiter and he said I was the final candidate chosen out of 408 applicants for the position. I find that really hard to believe but he promised to share his funnel with me if I joined. In the process there were 4 interviews and one take-home assignment, their hiring processes were as follows:
The recruiter shared a Google Docs sheet and I had to answer a few questions (relatively easy, but 2 out of the 3 were actually trick questions) live while I screen shared.
A short answer interview where I think I got 17 out of 20 correct. Examples of some of the questions were (I actually enjoyed this interview):
How and why would you go about combining models?
When is it appropriate to use PCA and what do we sacrifice?
What does non-linearity in NNs mean?
Take-home assignment (take a dataset, explore, find anomalies, create model, assess the model's performance, and deploy as a local API) that took about 3 hours.
Technical interview (more in-depth) on the take-home plus some other questions (interesting interview)
An HR behavioral-based interview
With 408 applicants, I imagine the recruiter would first filter out those with little experience (or inappropriate experience). I'd say that might cut it in half to 204. Then the Google Docs question sheet might have had a 1/3 drop off as I can see an inexperienced person floundering in one of the trick questions. So that brings us to 67 people. I think that interviewing 67 is a bit ridiculous. At my company, I interviewed 9 people for one of our positions and that was quite tedious. Let's assume they did interview 67 people, I think another 50% might not make it to the take-home assignment stage, so that leaves us with 34 people. I also assume maybe only 75% might have completed the take-home assignment. So that leaves them with 25 people to evaluate. Some poor guy would then have to review 25 assignments (of course not all at once as this vacancy has been up for 2 months). I believe maybe 50% of the 25 might make it to the next round so that's 13 people. And then the technical interview of 13, they might narrow it down to the final 5 who would then be passed onto HR. Am I right in assuming these numbers? My present company doesn't get nearly as many applicants, and generally, we hire 1 in 6 people we interview. At most, we get a dozen applicants for a position, and maybe half make it to the final interview, and then we decide.

So my N-dad is extremely self centered and thinks he is the center of the universe. I’m low contact because he is toxic and it’s just easier than no contact. Which I’m fine with because while I don’t mind sharing surface level stuff, I don’t really feel like sharing anything meaningful. He called a couple days ago and for the first time I can remember he just sat in silence and didn’t really even talk much. He just listened to me, listened to the kids playing and talking in the background and was just there. I think the contrast made me realize how one sided these conversations are and having that change was disconcerting. I don’t think it was a manipulation tactic, because that’s more subtle than he is capable of. I almost asked if he was like dying or something, but I didn’t want to show any of my cards. I don’t want any closer relationship, though I know he does. I just placate him with these calls. I don’t even really care if something is wrong, honestly. For his sake, I don’t wish harm or distress on him, but I also kinda don’t care. I don’t want to be involved and I don’t want to make it seem like I’m open to being involved. So I said nothing out of the ordinary. But I just keep thinking how very odd it felt. Idk
