Margin requirements for forex futures trades placed in early morning
I’m new to the concept of futures trading, and am interested in day trading Forex futures (like GBPUSD). What I’m confused about is this: there is a certain margin requirement for trades placed during “normal hours”, and a different, much higher one for “overnight”. It’s not clear what normals hours and overnight really means for currency futures. Considering I’d be trading with a small account, I wouldn’t want the “overnight” margins to apply. If I were to place a trade at say 4AM EST, which margin requirement would apply? Is it only that the overnight margin applies when you hold a trade from before close to after close, or does it also apply to anything that’s placed outside the typical 8/9AM-4/5PM zone? Thank you Edit: I think my confusion is cleared up now. What confused me was the terminology, “overnight” made it sound like a trade placed at night or before regular morning hours would require maintenance margin. What it actually means is holding an open trade during the 1hr time period between open and close, ie 5-6PM EST. A trade opened outside of that period wouldn’t require maintenance margin, as long as the trade was closed before the next 5PM EST close of the market. So, if I were to open a trade at 4AM EST, it wouldn’t require maintenance margin unless I held it past 5PM EST, so I would just need to make sure it was closed before then. I wouldn’t hold through that period anyway for what I’m doing (day trading). Thanks everyone for your replies.
So I'm fairly new to trading and I know that when we trade forex we trade a cfd and when trading es mini sp500 we're trading futures. My question is why almost everyone don't recommend trading forex and what are the cons trading that vs futures? Thanks guys

After spending 2 years studying and messing with stocks and options, I was ready to go live but as a newb I was facing some issues. 1) The PDT rule and 2) Ability to manage risk and to a lesser extent the amount of money I could make with a small account. Having this issue caused me to look at other options. I heard it mentioned that forex and futures are good for small accounts as there is no PTD rule and you can buy very small positions which helps manage risk. I first made a demo account on tradavote and mess around a few times on it. Didn't really find info on youtube that got me to stay. However, I did find a lot of good info on forex on youtube. Then I learned about prop firms and the ability to have access to massive accounts for little money down of your own. Also, it seems you are able to make more on trades with forex and futures than with stocks. With all that said, which market offers more to the trader in terms of potential earnings? Forex or futures?

Long time lurker here. Sorry for the total newbie question but I’m trying to figure out how futures/ forex contract trades are taxed. I understand that futures are taxed differently than normal stocks with the 60/40. Do I get taxed on every trade I make? Or is the tax applied to what I have made net at the end of the year? I have been researching online and YouTube and cannot seem to figure it out. I have been practicing with a paper account and have been doing pretty well. I just wanted to clear this up before I jump in and start trading with my real account. Thanks in advance!

been in cryptos intensively for 2 years, learnt about futures a month ago and now switching to forex
So here is the thing, I am fascinated about how forex trading works plus i am tired of cryptos uncertainty to proceed with futures trading. The reason I came along here was just to ask something, so far the only pair i been playing with (demo ofc) is xauusd, i usually do scalping so I wanted to ask if there are any other pairs that can provide decent returns as gold do (I guess gold returns and losses are high compared to other pairs) In addition, i would like to know what is the best set up (commisions speaking) for scalping. Currently using exness with a $200 account to have 0 spread but $3.5 comission and using metatrader5 which honestly is a pain in the ass to use for me (too antiquated).
