Hello and welcome to Post Pull Depression Another World, the only thread that always uses the generic FFBE music!
You might be wondering, isn't this a week late? No, you are thinking of PPD. This is PPD Another World which exists in a parallel world where one of the key differences is PPD always released on week 2 of the banner. That and we’ve achieved world peace but more importantly let’s talk about Chrono Cross!
Chrono Cross is the sequel to Chrono Trigger but that’s a little misleading. While it takes place in the same universe and follows after the events of CT and has some characters from CT it really is its own game more than just being Chrono Trigger 2. For better or worse.
Let’s take a look at the units!

Sausage Lynx

The Bad Guy
Even though Lynx is billed as the bad guy you actually play as him for half the game. I’ll avoid the why and the how as it’s a spoiler (fur suit). I will say the reason why he’s a cat (actually named wildcat in JP) is because when Serge was a child he was traumatized by listening to Ted Nuget’s Cat Scratch Fever over and over. So Lynx took this form to fuck with him. Ok, that’s only partially true but more correct than you think.
Stamina System
This actually applies to all CC units but since Lynx is first I’ll go over it here.

Weak Attack (100%) Heavy Attack (100%) Fierce Attack (100%)

My favorite part about CC is the battle system. You have 7 stamina points and can spend them doing weak attacks to build up your accuracy for heavy and fierce attacks or you can just blow all 7 by casting a spell (Element). The neat thing is you can actually go into the negatives. A common rotation is weak attack (1 stamina), heavy attack (2 stamina), fierce attack (3 stamina), element (7 stamina) leaving you at -6 stamina! You can also at any time just stop attacking and switch to another character.
Now, there’s only 2 major issues. The first is you get interrupted ALL THE GODDAMN TIME which is incredibly annoying and the second is you see the (100%) by the skill name? Well that’s your accuracy and let me tell you that’s a complete fucking lie. My guess is it’s before enemy evasion is taken into account or it uses Xcom’s accuracy numbers. 90%... miss. 90%... miss. 90%... miss. FUCK!
In FFBE the Weak Attack adds a mod boost to the Heavy/Fierce instead of an accuracy boost. Not that you will be using these skills anyways. Their MP costs are also fucking ridiculous at 500,1000,1500 respectively.
TMSTMR
Nothing special lore wise with his TMR and STMR that are creatively named Lynx’s Coat and Lynx’s Hat. Although in FFBE his hat is really good with 80 MAG and 50% LB boost.
VC

Dragon Tear - Dreams, hopes, and ambitions converge around the Dragon Tear. When Serge comes to after the gem overwhelms his consciousness, he sees his body being controlled by a will not his own.

This is the iconic scene on top of Fort Dragonia (pain in the fucking ass area) where shit really hits the fan. The game goes from pretty standard JRPG stuff to wtf just happened? A little disappointed they didn’t stab Kid in the animation skit as that would have been funny to see in chibi sprite form.

Depression: Furry Bait

In FFBE he’s pretty much a dark locked SLB mage who will never be used because by the time decent dark support rolls around he’ll be powercrept, but I never really liked playing as the bad guys anyways so no fur err skin off my back. I’ll see how lucky I can get with his frags from the character daily (please fix the 9am reset time) and hope to EX2 him that way otherwise he’s moogle and bench!

Sir Gay

Soda
Serge always makes me think of Surge, the soda with a caffeine content so high that it was banned! This is not true… but it’s something we all thought as high/middle schoolers. Btw, that’s high schoolers and middle schoolers, not middle schoolers that are high. Kids, say no to school. Stay in drugs. This soda could have had negative caffeine and we’d still be bouncing off the walls drinking it just because we were dumb enough to believe it.
Anyways…
Serge is the main character of Chrono Cross. One of 45 playable characters in the game. But we won’t get into that and how they had to make an accent generator specifically because. Also, here in Another World, Serge is dead. Not really a spoiler as it’s the crux of the main plot. He’s alive in Home World, dead in Another World and I’m sure that this one difference out of thousands of tiny others will have zero implications on the plot whatsoever… When has a main character in a JRPG ever had the main story revolve around them after all?
Elements

Element - Mag Negate Mitigate magic damage taken (99%) for 1 turn to one ally Enable area effect to all areas: Increase light physical and magic damage (30%) & Increase dark resistance (50%) Consumes 60 LB Exclusive: Serge

I mentioned in Lynx’s section that you can cast an Element but never actually said what they are. They are basically equippable spells. However before you can cast one you need to build up your tech levels which you can do via normal attacks. Characters only innately get 3 Techniques but you can fill up their grid with Elements ranging from healing to fire spells to buffs. Each character has an innate element and every Element has an element so generally you want to put your White Elements on your White characters (racists) so they get a boost. You can also just auto-fill elements because outside of like 3 fights the game is so easy it doesn’t matter.
TMSTMR

Mastermune - Weapon (Spear) Stats: ATK+210, MAG+220 Additional effect: Masa's Power, Mune's Power, Doreen's Power, Damage range 125% - 175%, Accuracy+50%, Two-handed weapon

I remember when my mom walked in on me Mastermune’ing I was so embarrassed… Oh wait. This is Serge’s weapon from Chrono Cross! Forget that last part. Not the Serge’s weapon part but the my mom walked in on me part.
Anyways… if you played Chrono Trigger then you know that the Masamune, the katana that identifies as whatever weapon type it wants (who says Japan isn’t progessive?) is a greatsword combined by using Dreamstone along with Masa and Mune. Well, it went evil in Chrono Cross and thanks to Serge setting it straight along with their big sister Doreen, the Mastermune was formed! It actually does give a bonus against many enemy types in CC so having omni-killer on it in FFBE is lore accurate!
VC

A Calling From Beyond Time - While visiting Opassa Beach with Leena, Serge hears a voice call his name. A moment later, a mysterious force whisks him away to another world.

Opassa Beach also known as Angelus Errare - Where Angels Lose Their Way. This makes no sense, but sounds cool so they rolled with it I guess? Anyways, when you need to switch worlds go here. Also, to fight the boss of the game go here and talk to the people who give you a massive info dump that should have been actual game content. At least it’s not as bad as Fei sitting in a chair with a pendulum behind him narrating disc 2 of Xenogears… but it’s pretty darn close.

Depression: CHRONO CROSS

Btw, I watched that movie knowing absolutely nothing about Hollywood of that era and the Manson cult and was completely confused. Anyways, sort of neat he does this? I guess one day there will be a second unit that wants a CD reduction? Also, kinda neat that one of Lynx’s quotes is:

Do we never see another member of the so-called Radical Dreamers? Guess what everyone! I belong to an international group of spies called Tom Makes Up Bullshit.
Alright… fine fine fine. If we go back to the game Radical Dreamers it’s an alternate universe with Kid, Serge and Magus Magil as a group of thieves. But CC ain’t RD. However, RD was really cool for its time as it was a early example of downloadable content via satellite known as Satellaview I assume this only works on like a full moon or some shit but I’m too lazy to really research 1995 technology yet I did research 1990s soda Surge. So I clearly have my priorities somewhere.

I have seen some “art” with Kid and quadruple swallows… In Chrono Cross though Swallow is the weapon type that Serge and Lynx use. They refer to it as “oar-shaped” to reference their island culture. Kid though, does not use Swallows, so hers should really be called Quadruple Dagger but that’s a lot of work apparently.
Swallow is also a katana you can choose in Chrono Trigger and if you grasp at straws hard enough like the Chrono Compendium you’ll compare it to Zeal:

The swallow, a small, swift-flying bird, may be symbolic of Zeal, which gracefully soared the skies.

Instead of picking the Swallow you could also pick the Safety Helm and we know that Zeal really cared about safety...

In Chrono Trigger you forge prism equipment from getting the rainbow shell and there’s a similar method in Chrono Cross. Except, it’s missable so fuck you. That’s right you can lock yourself out of prism equipment! I guess that’s what New Game+ is for an excuse to treat you like utter shit because there’s always a next time to also treat you like utter shit. Don’t talk to the Black Dragon (you racist).

Hang on! Are you tellin' me, you're gonna refuse the company of a lonely, vulnerable, sweet little girl?

Chrono Cross is a story about choice, the results of those choices and what could have been. Which makes it quite fitting that you can basically ignore Kid the entire game. That’s right, fuck your star-crossed lovers fate bullshit! You can refuse her on the cape (which you should do to recruit Lenna) you can refuse to save her (which gets you best character Glenn) and then you can beat the game while she’s still “sleeping”! Do I do any of this? No. Because I’m a Kid simp. But, as per the theme of the game, that is my choice! Somewhere out there is an alternate universe with a Tom that kicks the bitch to the curb at every turn.

Post Pull Depression

Reading all of this, I’m not really sure if I come off as loving or hating CC and I’m not really sure which of those I actually do. It reminds me a lot of Neon Genesis Evangelion where many people have said “wow it really speaks to me and teaches me how to communicate with others and exemplifies depression” meanwhile I’m sitting here going: Did you forget how to do a coherent plot? You had three chances and you blew it all three times… I think CC “suffers” from that same sort of late 90s existentialism that some people can really grab on to.
It is disappointing that disc 2 was rushed. I would love to see a fully developed CC. First of course, we go back and fix disc 2 of Xenogears. Then we go and fix all of Final Fantasy 8. Then we fix FF8 again, because it’s that bad and I don’t trust SE anymore. But after that we come back and flesh out the “info dumps” of CC and see what we can really accomplish!

Hey y'all! New lurker, even newer poster so I hope I've understood all of the rules correctly.
I'm 25M, or, well, 25FtM- my pronouns are he/him and I'm a transgender male from Canada. My fragrance leanings tend to lean more unisex or femme because a lot of my scent memories came from a time when I still identified as female! I've been collecting fragrances since September of 2020.
I love a good smokey, woodsy or gourmand scent for winter and I wanted to use this Show & Tell Weekend to showcase some of my favourite vanillas, as well as a stylized picture (edited to look aesthetic) of my winter fragrance lineup (the full bottles, at least.)

Le Participe Passe by Serge Lutens: okay, this is technically more of a caramel than a vanilla. It's my newest FB to my collection and was a blind buy, but oh boy, this fragrance brought me to tears the first time I wore it. I guess it's almost too complicated to classify as a vanilla, and I don't want to be misleading, so I'll give you my full description of the scent: it's the scent of my fifth birthday party (February baby here.)
This smells like coming in fromtobogganing in the cold to the scent of a crackling fireplace, and the homemade cake baking in the oven. It smells like my grandfather's hugs after he came in from smoking vanilla cigarillos. It smells like the patchouli oil my aunts wore on both of their wrists, whispering past my nose as a slice of cake is placed in front of me. It's warm and sweet and inviting, and gives the feeling of being cozy in a place where time doesn't exist and the only thoughts on your mind are cake, ice cream and your family.
Memoirs of a Trespasser by Imaginary Authors: this was my top fragrance of 2021. It's a woody, dry vanilla without a hint of powderiness. It can almost be a bit 'much' at times, as I find it pretty unique (in my collection, at least) in its brusque dryness. I definitely pick up on the clay accord, it smells like you're sun-baking some terracotta while sitting atop an oak barrel, licking french vanilla ice cream from the edges of your lips. It's truly been a pleasure to revisit.
Whispers in the Library by Maison Margiela REPLICA: This is another nostalgia-bomb, because this is the first FB I ever chose for myself (though it was a gift). I'd been handed down bottles from friends and coworkers before but this is the first fragrance I actually researched, tested and then picked up a full bottle of, and I credit it with really getting me into perfume.
It's soft and balanced, I get a lot of tonka and woodiness. It's a pinch powdery but the vanilla base note brings it back into edible territory. It does smell slightly of old books, but to me, it actually smells like a mix of two things- drinking vanilla oolong tea, and then at the very edge of my nose I get that twang I always experience in a hot cedar sauna. I'm curious if anyone else feels the same about that last bit.
Fresh Cream by Philosophy: What would a vanilla selection be without a good, linear cheapie? Fresh Cream is the current contender for 'most layered' in my collection this year- it's a nice, lactonic sweet, sweet, SWEET vanilla. Did I mention it's sweet?
It's kind of my secret weapon to use when I want to wear a deeper fragrance with a drydown I adore but an opening I don't quite care for- the Philosophy fragrances last through the opening to make it sweeter, less astringent, less aromatic, whatever it may be, and then after two hours it peaces out and I'm free to enjoy the middle and base notes of the other fragrance I'm wearing.

Chergui by Serge Lutens: the fragrance that changed my mind on tobacco notes. Layers well with vanilla.
Flora Mortis by All Saints: what a spectacular winter floral. Deep purple petals dusted with a hint of brown sugar.
Vanille Insensee by Atelier Cologne: This is a cold, unsweetened vanilla, and it's not my absolute favourite but I actually love it for when I'm going to a restaurant. It's relatively inoffensive to most people I meet, and I find it doesn't interfere with the scent/taste of my food or drink if I should catch a whiff of my sleeve or collar while having a meal.
The Only One (pour femme) by Dolce & Gabbana: I go in waves of liking and disliking this fragrance. At the current moment, I find it pretty dang seductive. It's quite rich, and I feel confident when I wear it, but there's a time and a place for that.
Sweet by Lolita Lempicka: I scored this for $20 in a clearance bin and oh my, what a find! A beautiful sweet-tart-juicy-candied-cherry. It gives me what I wanted from Lost Cherry. I should try layering the two, really...
Terre D'Hermes by Hermes: had to have an OG in the lineup! This is one of the two fragrances I wore in high school (exclusively from free samples I received in online orders). Musky, woody citrus. Powerful nearly to a fault. There are many musky-woody-citrus fragrances on the market, but this is the one for me. I find it very comforting.
Lipstick On by Maison Margiela REPLICA: This is one of my favourites of all time, and a guilty pleasure to boot. Strictly from notes, it seems like it could be quite fresh, but instead it's powdery, waxy, vanilla-heliotrope-tonka goodness. It's only a 'guilty' pleasure because most of my family hates it or says it's "too mature" for someone my age.
Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors: the quintissential evergreen-tree scent in my collection. Smells like a beautiful mix of spruce, pine, and macerated cedar sprigs with a hint of sweet strawberry. Incredibly lush and rich.
