Margin requirements for forex futures trades placed in early morning

I’m new to the concept of futures trading, and am interested in day trading Forex futures (like GBPUSD). What I’m confused about is this: there is a certain margin requirement for trades placed during “normal hours”, and a different, much higher one for “overnight”. It’s not clear what normals hours and overnight really means for currency futures. Considering I’d be trading with a small account, I wouldn’t want the “overnight” margins to apply.
If I were to place a trade at say 4AM EST, which margin requirement would apply? Is it only that the overnight margin applies when you hold a trade from before close to after close, or does it also apply to anything that’s placed outside the typical 8/9AM-4/5PM zone?
Thank you
Edit: I think my confusion is cleared up now. What confused me was the terminology, “overnight” made it sound like a trade placed at night or before regular morning hours would require maintenance margin. What it actually means is holding an open trade during the 1hr time period between open and close, ie 5-6PM EST. A trade opened outside of that period wouldn’t require maintenance margin, as long as the trade was closed before the next 5PM EST close of the market. So, if I were to open a trade at 4AM EST, it wouldn’t require maintenance margin unless I held it past 5PM EST, so I would just need to make sure it was closed before then. I wouldn’t hold through that period anyway for what I’m doing (day trading). Thanks everyone for your replies.

The financial information, investment experience and/or investment objectives you have listed in your account profile do not meet the eligibility requirements to trade Margin?

I am trying to create a trading account so I can algo-trade on margin through IBKR's API but I keep getting this error when I hit continue. Am I not allowed to trade on margin unless I meet certain requirements? I don't wanna lie to them neither.

That Susquehanna email notification could be legit. Per DTCC documentation they still receive email notifications of margin requirements but need to login to their PBS account for live updates.

Can you do SPX credit spreads with a cash account or is margin always a requirement?

Since spx options are cash settled can you trade credit spreads without having a margin account and just having a regular cash account? I just got hit with a violation of PDT rules so I either have to keep my account over 25k or trade es mini futures which I don't like doing because when I trade them towards the end of the day the margin requirements go up and I get kicked out of my trades.

Forex Scam Alert:Scammers pretending to be CLSA Premium trading platform ask customers to pay 30% of their account balance as margin in order to release their account restrictions. This is a scam, beware!

Forex Scam Alert:Scammers pretending to be CLSA Premium trading platform ask customers to pay 30% of their account balance as margin in order to release their account restrictions. This is a scam, beware!
According to the investor's complaint, he invested by downloading the "CLSA Premium" app recommended by an online friend.
On June 3, he applied for a withdrawal, but the $2820.83 in his account could not be withdrawn until now.
The customer service of the fake CLSA Premium first told him that "the consumption did not reach the withdrawal standard", and then said that the funds he topped up were suspected of money laundering, so his account was partially restricted and he needed to pay a deposit of 30% of his account balance before he could apply for release of the restriction.
Complaint details:

It is clear that the investor has encountered a fraudulent broker.
CLSA Premium's official website does not offer their APP product, but trading through MT5. The investor downloaded the fake trading platform APP and the invested funds went into the pockets of the fraudsters.
Moreover, the so-called "suspected money laundering", "account restrictions", "margin payment" and so on are all the serial traps designed by fraudsters to extract more funds from investors, and such traps are very common.
Reminder: Generally speaking, it is up to the regulator to determine whether an investor is suspected of money laundering. Brokers can report suspected money laundering activity to the regulator, but are not authorized to demand fees from clients on the basis of suspected money laundering. Those trading platforms that ask for fees from clients on this basis are essentially scams.
In addition, others that require clients to pay additional fees (such as taxes, margin, channel fees, etc.) in order to withdraw funds are also scams. Investors are advised to keep your eyes open and stay alert.

Should I be trading BITCOIN NANO FUTURES ($25 margin required) which has $0 commissions and data fees or SPY OPTIONS which have 3 trades until you blowup your account? (For small accounts less than 1k)???

I am deciding between the two trading instruments. Which one makes sense for someone who has a small account (less than 1k) but wants exposure to a trading instrument that has no PDT???
Should I go w/BITCOIN NANO FUTURES or SPY OPTIONS?
What do you think?
BITCOIN nano futures seems like it has an avg. volume of 75K contracts traded a day (seems decent for the small account trader) and it seems like it has more chances for you to blow up your account.
On the other hand, trading SPY options may only yield me about ~3 or so trades before I really blow up my account since it is really volatile.
For a BITCOIN NANO FUTURES contract, a $5 upside in BITCOIN is worth 0.05 cents.
THE TOTAL REGULATORY FEE for BITCOIN NANO FUTURES is ~$0.42 per contract it seems.
This means I need about a $45 move in BITCOIN to make a profit.
Please tell me your thoughts on this: BTC NANO FUTURES provided by COINBASE DERIVATIVES.
Can you let me know your opinion on these two options??? Please?

How do margin requirements and buying power reductions work if you sell a box spread in a portfolio margin account?

This is all hypothetical. I'm just interest in studying different option's strategies.
Let's say you have an account with $1 million in SPY.
You sell a Dec. 15 2023 box contract with strikes of 4000-5000 and receive 95,900.
1) What are the margin requirements of the box spread?
2) What is the buying power reduction?
3) Can I withdraw the proceeds or do they have to stay in the account?
4) If I can and do withdraw the proceeds, how does that affect the margin call calculations for my SPY stock?

Thoughts on Individual Brokerage account Margin Requirement waiving? Extend the fun to your customers. New promo idea.

Recently we have been told that friends help friends when in need. Specifically the DTCC was able to waive collateral requirements to the tune of $9.7B. The rules are unclear if this was allowed or not. I’ll take “what are requirements, Alex”. We also learned they’re aren’t any explicit plans to change these requirements.
So it’s time to capitalize on this gray area with a new Fidelity Promo!
Collateral waived individual brokerage accounts. You can attract new customers by offering like infinite risk trading. If a trade goes wrong, just waive it. Money printers on.
During these troubling times of high inflation and supply chain issues from the wars overseas, I could really use a friend in fidelity. We’re all friends here.
Would debate giving a 5 star review on Yelp.

Transferred positions from a CASH brokerage account to my IB portfolio MARGIN account, margin requirements increased ?!!

Hey,
So as the title goes, I transferred all my positions from another broker which was a cash account, consisting of all 100% cash-paid stocks without any negative balance, to my IB account which is in portfolio margin.
Looking at the account info in TWS, I can see that after transferring all these previously fully purchased (with cash) positions, the margin requirements (initial and maintenance) have increased drastically, as if I have purchased these positions on margin (which I did not). Anyone knows what gives? Maybe I'm missing something here.
Thanks.

SoFi locked my account, and they blamed Margin requirements on me. Sorry apes. It's my fault

(Edit) : sauce for the 64 million share price company since lots of the comments have asked. December 2013 (go to the top right, click "More", and select "Max" as the date range) https://bit.ly/3qyGrRj
(Edit2) : sauce for the reason behind my inquiry. I received a notification from SoFi that they updated their share lending policy. This was the link in the notification (peep the "updated" time). https://support.sofi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058634151-What-is-a-security-lending-program-
I called them after they locked my account, and they assumed I was from reddit because of my grandfathered "Ridiculous" as they put it, limit orders. They blamed everything on me. Margin requirements, limit order limits, the whole shebang. I'm going to paraphrase in places, I screen recorded but apparently it's 2021 and the built in screen recorder doesn't record call audio. OK.
Just got off the phone with SoFi, they unlocked my account but didn't tell me why it had been locked. When I asked them if the share lending is automatically in place for every account, they told me that all their accounts are margin accounts, but they act like cash accounts and you can't buy anything on margin. So EVERY SoFi account automatically has Security Lending in place, until you opt out. Then, the guy went off on a rant about reddit after I opted out.
He said reddit thinks we (brokers) are out here trying to screw people over, but we (brokers) aren't. Share lending is our (brokers) number one revenue maker (im paraphrasing this bit) and lending was never a problem until reddit (omegafuckinlul)
He said they go through Apex clearing house just like most every other broker app, and said that Apex was the one with control over the halting of trading, if it happens again.
I then asked what was up with the 2 mil limit per transaction, and he went off on a tangent about limit order limits, but that's not what I was talking about. SoFi was limiting my transactions to 2 mil back in march, meaning I could sell 100 shares for up to 2 mil total, or 1 share for 2 mil total, but nothing over. So my question was, what happens if a security ticker is over 2 mil, can i just not trade it? His answer was "well that's never happened before (bullshit, i have at least 2 tickers in mind that have gone to 64 mil and 1.4 bil respectively), but the limit is probably on limit orders and not on market orders (big fuckin red flag, don't touch market orders plz). So, might have some issues offloading shares during the squoze with sofi.
The last bit of interesting info is that they implemented a limit order limit for a certain percentage above current ticker price. But all the ones I put in before that limit are grandfathered in. Currently, I can list 1 gme for $5500 ish on a limit order, they won't let me go higher. But I hella have a couple in for 2 mil right now, and the dude saw the orders in my account and then went off on reddit. He said that people putting limit orders like that increases SoFi margin requirements from Apex and is why they had to introduce the limit (the $5500 one). So, it's my fault guys. I'm sorry for the limit order limit.
