Good morning everyone. Hopefully we all know by now that the stock market is a daily auction judged by sentiment. The reason it makes no sense to try and do setups a week before or even the night before is because as we get closer to 9:30 sentiment can change. Data can come out like lost jobs, inflation, news can come out that AAPL will lose 5-10 million deliveries on their Iphone 14s, TSLA news can come out, as it did this morning that indeed model Y in Shanghai is cutting production… which they denied only days ago! For whatever reason this morning sentiment is still positive… Of course if sentiment is positive by 9:30AM chances are it will be the same throughout the day. I try and have a plan around 8:30AM and adjust as we get closer to open. GME missed bottom line and lost 31 cents a share [Miss by 3 cents, already bad estimates], they missed top line 1.19 billion [Missed by 160 million, even a decline in sales by 8.5%] There is no way that this earnings can be spun positive. They have not made money not even a penny since 2018. But the facts do not move a market or a stock. It is what traders decide right now… however the facts will catch up to a stock they always do, 100% of the time, not 99% I am saying 100% of the time. Usually it is with a company’s earnings reports, when people have to lay into the facts, execution and numbers. [I love numbers they do not have an opinion.] A lot of hype is in TSLA and now people are seeing the numbers do not mirror the actual execution in the company… NVDA bounced off of 108 with their new video card, and China news is on the back door…. However the stock rising to 172 has done nothing for the company, it is all hype and no execution and we will see it when numbers are delivered… BA had an absolute horrific report, has had some deals that may help in the long future but it will not help them right now… You will see when they report it will be awful again… PTON had some atrocious earnings and sales, I do not see the company being in business January 1st of 2024 without fresh funds, it is as bad as CVNA . The stock has doubled 100% off the lows on Black Friday news and on news sales increased for workout equipment, they tried to say sales are up for the new Rowing equipment as well. You will see this will not effect the numbers when they report horrific earnings again. How can I be so sure? The trajectory the last 4 earnings reports has been atrocious on PTON, the speculative news has nothing material, it is hype…It is far different than even BA.. BA news may have a deal for 2024 30 planes, contract.. TSLA missed car deliveries, IPHONE sales are down… We have nothing material on PTON, just Black Friday workout equipment up, Row equipment sales up, this has rallied from 9 passed 12 and near 13! What a joke! I like the results on DOCU. I liked the results and upgrade on MDB. DOCU grew sales at 18% but made 57 cents a share. Remember, hyper growth is at least 30%.. So I don’t even see that as tremendous but the stock was rocked. Right now, the SP500 trades at 18.5x earnings… So if CHWY is losing 20-40 cents a share and growing at 14% how on earth is it 41.50 a share? CHWY is expected to lose 12 cents for 2023 and make just 4 cents for 2024!!! You can get the numbers on Yahoo finance for free! What a joke! DOCU is expected to make 1.65 next year! 18% growth. You need to compare the numbers, the growth, trajectory to arrive at a fair stock price. MDB growing at 50%, and they went from expected loss to earn money! HIMS is growing at 100% and is set to breakeven in 2023. Those are companies in a bull market that may work. I don’t even like CHWY in a bull market! Not at these prices! What is a stock you are watching? Check growth on CRWD SNOW ZS, I must admit that OKTA was a little impressive but most of these are growth stocks, and the reports were pretty good.. Remember these smaller cap companies do not carry the stock market… 3rd Week of January we will get earnings from companies that carry the market… Soon we will see bad results from MSFT GOOG AMZN AAPL TSLA AMD META ADBE NVDA…. In fact these 5 are almost 25% of the SP500! AAPL MSFT AMZN GOOG TSLA So guess what? When they report earnings and all 5 had bad earnings for the 3rd quarter sentiment will change! I am not confident that any of these 5 mega giants will have good earnings.. I would go as far to say that if any of these 5 get a 65 [That is beating top and bottom line by 3% or less] I will be impressed. I will be impressed if they have flat sales or near 10% growth on sales and 5% on earnings! Remember in general, SP500 grows sales 10-20% and earnings 5-10% So what are we cheering if SP500 giants cant grow sales 10-20% and earnings 5-10%!!!?? Use the barometer of what the SP500 has delivered over time, since inception and don’t let people try and tell you otherwise, it is a correct barometer I use.. I will look to make more moves starting Monday as we get CPI Tuesday and Powell Wednesday. I do expect CPI to be 7.4 or below and if so we will get a .5 hike. The expectations are a 7.3. Unless we get a 6.9 or below consider the .5 said in stone. If we get a 7.5 or above I expect a .75 hike.. So I havent ruled out a .75 hike completely. We are coming off a 7.7% CPI, I do not believe we are getting the 7.3 expected but even a 7.4 should be fine for a .50 hike. I expect Powell when speaking Wednesday he will signal the Fed is not done. I expect us to get 1.0% more hike, a .5 and 2 more .25 but that will be data dependent. I will also not be surprised if we get 1.25, but I see at least 1.0 more hike. I will wait and be patient. I will email ZIM over the weekend. 5 trade ideas: NVDA – I am getting teased for puts 172… BOIL KOLD – Wow! What a move! Still hot trades, it was 25.90 Tuesday morning! I was about to go back in BOIL yesterday CELH – Beverage maker, I do like the 98% growth, but we are in a bear market, they are losing money, it is near 120 a 52 week high! I do like it but not in this market, we have to sell and short speculation with the back drop of the economy FRPT – Back near 61, they had bad earnings, worse than CHWY, they are both insanely over valued MNDY – Israeli software company with 65% growth, I did write that recent earnings was good 3 weeks ago, it flew to 110, came down to 85 and now it is back near 110! Market closes at 1:00 EST today. I always enjoy Black Friday. With algorithms I don't know what APE would do if we had the average hourly volume of Wednesday, but I'd think the price would soar. I've bought 500 so far today. 💪
Before Algos, I figured the traders on the high end of the hierarchy were not working, and the guys at the bottom were handling the trading. When buying pressure came in, I believe it spooked them and they would back off and the stock would run. Those were the days my friends. One year I put buy orders in on six stocks, went out golfing, came back and five filled and I was up 60% on the trades. But come Monday, they dropped it all way back down and I could only take a 20% gain. Like I said, with Algos these days, I don't know what would happen. Edited spelling "five" was auto corrected to "give". 😁
