!!PSA/Scam Alert!!: Beware of Attractive Women Claiming to Be Prodigiously Gifted Forex Traders
[Edit: It has been brought to my attention this has been discussed on the forum previously] I'm new to SA and seemed to have narrowly dodged a scam of some sort. Figured I'd post a summary for the benefit of any new hopeful SDs out there, like myself. Also for the lols. Messaged a POT SB from my area on SA and the conversation started off fairly normal, other than she didn't seem to want to/know how to articulate what kind of arrangement she was looking for. Wanted to "take things slow," she said. "Sure, seems reasonable--I can wait" I thought. Switched to texting via WhatsApp--ya know, the end-to-end encrypted messaging app (obvious red flag that went over my head #1). Through our conversation about the foods we liked to cook, I gathered she was originally from China or more likely one of the southeast Asian countries. Then we talked about her work. She said she was a forex (foreign currency exchange) trader and also invested in jewelry (WTF is that combination?!? red flag #2), which seemed extremely odd but certainly possible. She asked if I had ever traded crypto, and I have, which was a hell of a guess on her (let's be honest here, probably his) part. She said she buys ETH and USDT through Coinbase and sends it to her forex platform to trade, which to me sounded like a really back-asswards thing to do (red flag #3). For those who are not familiar with crypto or forex, suffice it to say there are way simpler ways to trade both of them, so what she described is very unusual. But I thought, "Hey, other countries have pretty strict regulations on crypto and forex, so maybe this is her way of getting around them?" Our conversation stretched across a few days. We talked about everything and nothing, and she seemed pretty interesting so I went with it. Yesterday, she said she was busy getting ready to execute a big trade. A few hours later, I asked how it went and she sent me a screenshot of some website UI I didn't recognize saying something about a 20,000USDT (effectively $20,000) profit. I expressed my amazement, and a little while later she sent another screenshot showing a similarly large amount of profit. It was at this point I finally began thinking with the appropriate head. "Why the hell would a woman who makes 40K in a weekend be on a sugaring site?!?" I thought. Then the moment I was dreading finally arrived: she said she could help me make money like her if I just opened an account on the same forex platform she uses. Sent me a link to a website [won't post the link here for obvious reasons, but it was a weird variation of the words "coin" and "gate" with a ".vip" domain] and said I'd need an email, password, and an invitation code (which she provided) to register. She said I shouldn't try making any trades on my own and should wait for her to give instructions. At this point I was done. Said something like, "thank you for offering your expertise to me, but I couldn't possibly take advantage of your kindness like that before we've had a chance to meet in person." She insisted it was fine, in a heartwarming pay-it-forward kind of way, but I flipped it back saying she should at least let me take her to dinner first as a token of my appreciation. Got an abrupt "Good night," and that was that. Immediately logged into SA and, yep, you guessed it, her profile and messages were already gone. TL;DMoral of the story: Young SDs, don't let your seemingly endless libido get you embroiled in an international crypto/forex money-laundering scheme.
